PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Lord, teach me to be generous,
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing that I do your will.
Amen
Dear Parents and Carers
We began this week with Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday heralds the beginning of Holy Week. Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus was welcomed by a huge crowd to Jerusalem. Many had heard about him and were curious to see this man who cared for the marginalized, healed the sick, taught about love, compassion, inclusion and forgiveness and although a devout Jew, challenged a number of Jewish laws. He shared his relationship with and vision of a loving, forgiving and inclusive God. Jesus was in many ways an enigma – a man of peace, who put himself at grave risk by challenging the established norms, teachings and culture of the times in which he lived – 1 st Century Palestine. This would ultimately result in his arrest, trial and death.
As Catholics we reflect on the story of Jesus during Holy Week, including The Last Supper, The Washing of the Feet, The Garden of Gethsemane and The Stations of the Cross. On Thursday at 11:00am, Year 5 will lead us in the Stations of The Cross in the hall. All are welcome to join in this solemn occasion.
As we end Term 1 2023, I would like to acknowledge the staff of Nazareth for their dedication and enthusiasm in educating and caring for your children. The students have had a very productive first quarter of the 2023 school year. We have greatly enjoyed welcoming parents and visitors to our Faith and Learning Visits, our Celebration of Learning Assemblies and our Stage One reading helpers. Your generosity has enabled the school to donate significant funds to Project Compassion and the P&F have started the year with a fabulous School Disco and a successful “BunRaiser” hot cross bun drive.
Our Cross Country Carnival was a huge success – the first whole school Cross Country in quite a while due to COVID restrictions and weather issues. I would like to extend my appreciation to the parents who volunteered on the day, the students who competed and engaged in the day with a lively sense of school spirit, and all of the staff who organised, supervised and cheered! Next stop – Athletics Carnival 2nd June 2023.
During Holy week, whenever possible, celebrate together the great love of God for each one of us as we walk with Jesus through his suffering, death and into the joy of his resurrection.
In Faith and Learning,
Lisa Tyson
