PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Lord, teach me to be generous,
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing that I do your will.
Amen
Thank you so much to everyone who has completed the Parent Survey. As you are aware, our school improvement goals this year involve improving students reading comprehension skills and improving community involvement in our school. This survey is a valuable tool in monitoring our progress to date. Over the rest of Term 3, I will share aspects of the survey results with you.
We have had an amazing response to the survey, with approximately 33% of our families responding. Out of the 92 respondents at the time of writing this message, 77.2% expressed satisfaction with the increased methods of communication this year. COMPASS remains the primary source of information, however social media, newsletters, SeeSaw and the electronic notice board provide reminders or additional details as needed. Having multiple avenues to communicate with our parents and carers provides opportunities for as many parents/carers as possible to have easy access to information. I also endeavour to provide as much notice as possible to all events, as indicated in my ‘Dates for your Calendar’ document that is shared with you via COMPASS in preparation for each term. Weekly information is also available as a reminder on social media each Sunday evening.
You will notice our Nazareth staff wearing new staff shirts on one day per week from now on. These shirts have been designed by our Aboriginal Education Assistant, Mr Mark Mongta. This Shirt holds great significance as it allows the Nazareth School community to further grow the relationship and knowledge regarding Indigenous Culture. The design includes various symbols that represent learning, gathering, meeting place and yarning. These symbols are of great importance as they explore the significance of conversations and passing down of dreamtime stories in the community. Not only do the symbols hold great importance but so too do the colours. Traditionally the colours include oranges, yellows, reds and browns, however blues are also incorporated to represent the saltwater area in which we gratefully live. The blues also show the connectiveness between the land and our school, helping to further show the kinship between the Indigenous culture with the school, students, staff, and families. As Mr Mongta explains, the main message behind this story is sharing, learning, and most importantly appreciating the land which we all share. We are so thankful for Mr Mongta designing this shirt, and to Miss Biggs for co-ordinating this design. This design will show how proud we are as a community.
The Wave FM Breakfast Broadcast on Wednesday morning was a great success. We were absolutely thrilled to host Jade and Damian and the Wave FM crew in our playground for the broadcast of their breakfast show and our students were all super stars! The announcement of the winner of the $10,000 will take place on Monday 14th August. Fingers and toes crossed please everyone!
