PB4L
During Week 6 our PB4L focus continues to be on ‘How to be a Good Friend’ with particular emphasis on empathy. During the week we will explicitly teach friendship skills to develop and foster peer to peer respect between students.
Classroom staff will teach, praise and reinforce students showing respect to their peers through friendship qualities. Playground staff will remind students before and during play, and will hand out playground tokens to students demonstrating target friendship skills.
One way we can follow our respect school rule at Nazareth is by being a good friend to our peers. Revise what being a good friend looks, sounds and feels like. Students give examples of when they’ve noticed others displaying friendship qualities.
Responsible Decision-Making
This week, students look at another one of the five SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) competencies 'Responsible Decision-Making'. Responsible Decision-Making involves identifying, solving and reflecting on problems and their causes. Students are called upon to make responsible decisions through this 5 step action plan:
- I stop and think about the problem;
- Then I think about what caused the problem;
- Next, I try to solve the problem;
- I ask myself 'was this the right decision?'
- I learn from my mistakes and respond appropriately.
