PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Wednesday May 26 is set aside as National Sorry Day and marks the day that the landmark ‘Bringing them Home’ report was tabled in federal parliament in 1997.It is a time for all of us to remember past government policies which caused trauma and pain to many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people. May 26 and the following week known as Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect then respond with appropriate action which will allow for positive steps forward towards true reconciliation. As noted on the National Reconciliation Week website… ‘We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.’ Nazareth School is very fortunate to have as staff member Mr Mark Mongta. Mr Mongta is an Aboriginal Education Support Officer and works at Nazareth on Wednesdays. Yesterday Mr Mongta spoke with many classes in relation to the importance of learning about National Reconciliation Week. Next week a number of Nazareth students will participate in the local schools day organised by Shellharbour Council and members of the local Aboriginal community.

Last Sunday the church celebrated Pentecost Sunday. This significant feast acknowledges the empowerment of the disciples to spread the Gospel of Jesus, so as to gather believers to form what would eventually become the Church. I encourage families to be actively involved in our local parish church. Refer to the details within the Newsletter in relation to Mass times at All Saints Church.

Enjoy the week ahead.
