RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
Reconciliation
Students are preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday, 17 March. The sacrament of Reconciliation is a prerequisite for First Holy Communion. Thank you to all of the parents who are supporting their children in preparing for these sacraments and bringing your children to church and to the afternoon workshops. These special events do not happen without the support and guidance from you, the parents.
Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
Next Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, followed by Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. Year 6 and Mini Vinnies students will be selling pancakes on Tuesday for a coin donation.
We would like to ask for volunteers to help students cook the pancakes. If you have a spare couple of hours you are willing to give and an electric frypan, could you please contact the office or send an email to info@nscdow.catholic.edu.au and Mrs Mammone will be back in touch with you regarding the day. All proceeds will be going to Project Compassion.
Stage 3 students will be attending the virtual launch of Project Compassion. Spanning across the six weeks of Lent each year, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for people living in some of the most vulnerable communities across the world. Nazareth will be donating the proceeds of Pancake Day to Project Compassion.
Students in Years 3-6 will be attending Mass next Wednesday to celebrate Ash Wednesday. This day marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a special time of the year when we reflect on our baptismal promises and think about how we are living out Jesus’ mission in our home, school and community. It is a time when God invites us to become better people. The Season of Lent is a time in which we reflect on how we can have a change of heart. We reflect on this in special ways: by prayer; by giving to our brothers and sisters in need and by fasting.
Kindergarten to Year 2 students will participate in a small in-class Liturgy where they will also receive the blessed Ashes.
