RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

Confirmation

Confirmation workshops began this week for Year 6 students making the Sacrament of Confirmation this year.  Workshops will run Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at either 3 pm or 5 pm in the Hall.  We ask that parents please be on time when arriving at these workshop sessions.  If your child is attending a 3 pm workshop, you are required to pick your child up from school at 2.45 pm and take them to the hall for a 3 pm start.  Supervision at school is only until 2.45 pm and teachers need to prepare for the workshop session.

Class Masses

We have reintroduced Class Masses for 2022.  With restrictions now lifted, all classes will participate in a weekly Wednesday mass at 9 am on a rotating basis.  This week Year 3 attended Wednesday Mass.  Next Wednesday, Year 4 will be attending Mass.  We welcome any parents, family members or friends to join us at any of the Wednesday masses.

Pentecost

This Sunday, 5 June we celebrate one of the most important feast days of the year that concludes the Easter season and celebrates the beginning of the Church and it is the celebration of Pentecost.  Pentecost always occurs 50 days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, and ten days after his ascension into heaven.  Pentecost is the celebration of the person of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus.

It was right after Pentecost that Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, preached his first homily to Jews and other non-believers, in which he opened the scriptures of the Old Testament, showing how the prophet Joel prophesied events and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  For this reason, Pentecost is considered the birthday of the Church - Peter, the first Pope, preaches for the first time and converts thousands of new believers.

To celebrate the birthday of the church, this Sunday will be the parish Multicultural Day.  Our choir will be performing Hearts of Courage as part of the lunchtime celebrations in the Hall.  Mass will commence at 9 am and celebrations will follow at 11 am.  Everyone is welcome.

All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website:  https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
