Year 6 excursion to Cataract Scout Camp
This term, Year 6 went on an excursion to Cataract Scout Camp. The students were very excited for the excursion and the students' excitement was at a high, despite the early morning start. We got to go on the giant swing, complete a rescue mission and then hit the obstacle course (which included some water activities). The students were exhausted by the end of the day and ready for a rest on the bus ride home.
Here are some recounts of our excursion:
"We arrived at the giant swing, it was so high! When I looked at it
I was so scared. There was a ladder crew, and a rope crew. The ladder crew had to bring in the ladder and take it out when the person was ready to enter and exit. The rope crew has to pull the person up that was currently swinging. When the person was ready at their height, they stopped. “THREE, TWO... ONE!!” Mark yelled. When I went up, it was so scary!!
They drop you unexpectedly and you get butterflies." - Mia De'gidio
"We had to walk about a kilometre to get there but I enjoyed walking alone in that area, it was like a Forest and I really enjoyed walking. Once we got there we ate recess and he explained what we had to do, it was boys vs girls to do it and Mia and I were telling everyone what to do and no one would listen by the end of it. I had a sore throat but while we were doing the team rescue our celebrity was JJ from Outer Banks. We had to jump on tyres and logs to get across. I fell off about 6 times. All of the girls were getting frustrated because the boys were coming closer and all the girls were stuck on one tyre. We had about 13 girls in our team. Once we made it across we had to go across swing and Mia went first. Once she got over, the swing hit her in the chin and she got a bruise. She still has it right now then I went across and got over pretty quickly but once I got across David said it was finished but not all the girls made it over." - Chelsea Alaban
"When we were walking to the obstacle course I was not expecting much after that team rescue activity, but I was in shock when I saw the first obstacle. There was a ladder then underneath there was WATER! We had to climb up the ladder, climb down some stairs and then jump in water…. All I can say is the water was FREEZING! It went up to the top of our legs. The next obstacle was ANOTHER water activity, we had to climb up some stairs, cross a bridge and then swing into the water ON A ROPE, It was crazy! Thankfully the next activity wasn’t as bad, we had to simply climb up and down stairs and then jump in a really shallow pool of water after that we had to rub mud on our face! But the next one was the WORST out of them all, we had to crawl through a tunnel with water in the middle, we only had a little bit of air space! I nearly pulled out of that one but I wanted to try every single one. The next one was another crawling obstacle and it was the last water one, we had to race someone while crawling in a water pool under a net. That was the last water activity and after that there were dry activities like a bridge or a ladder that we had to climb.” - Sebastian Forlano

Year 5 Excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm
On Wednesday 22nd June, Year 5 visited Calmsley Hill Farm, to further our knowledge about the Food and Fibre industries in Australia.
After a quick snack, we were able to visit the farm's nursery and meet: goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, pigs and mice! Then it was onto a stage three tour of the farm. Here we were able to see the farm from different viewpoints and appreciate the quieter side of life. We discussed sustainable farming practices and looked at how a farm operates daily.
Finally we were able to revisit some more animals, this time it included camels, cows, kangaroos, kelpies and foxes.
We ended our day at the farm with a whip cracking show! We loved it.
Thanks to our teachers for organising such a great experience for us.
