Book Week Parade

On Friday 2nd September (Week 7) Nazareth will celebrate Book Week with a  Character parade.  Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.  We will gather as a school community on our school playground with the parade starting at 8:50am.  We will also have a toddlers and parent parade so please dress up and join in the fun as we celebrate our love of reading.

Students are also invited to join in the following competitions in the lead up to our Book Week celebrations.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2: Colouring in competition

Years 3 & 4: Photo Competition (please see details on SeeSaw)

Years 5 & 6: Cake Making and Story box (please see details on SeeSaw)

All the students at Nazareth have been creating inspired artworks in Visual Arts in anticipation of our upcoming Book Week theme and celebration ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’.

In Years K-2 we have been learning about Indigenous Australian art and culture through the sharing of stories from The Dreaming. We are very excited for Book Week. Here is a snippet of some of the fabulous things we have been learning about and creating in Visual Arts this week in the lead up to our celebration.

In Year 1 and Year 2 we have been learning about The Dreaming story of ‘Tiddalick the Frog’.  We have also learnt about some of the different types of Aboriginal art like paintings and sculptures that are used to tell a story. We created our own paper sculptures of Tiddalick, the greedy frog. Some of the Frogs that we made are on display in our Library, as presented by Harry U, Nikki M and Joshua K above.

In Kindergarten we have also been learning about Indigenous Australian artworks and culture, such as how stories are passed down through oral storytelling. One story we listened to was ‘The Rainbow Serpent’. We created our own rainbow serpents using wool and cardboard.

Kindergarten retell the story of The Rainbow Serpent:

"The Rainbow Serpent shaped all the Earth with his body. He created the land and hills". - Indigo M

"The Rainbow Serpent woke up all the frogs and tickled their bellies. The water flowed out of their mouths into the Rainbow Serpent’s tracks to make the rivers". - Luca H

"When the rainbow serpent woke up he slithered along and after travelling he was so tired.  When he woke up he went to look for his tribe". - Aditya P
