RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

St Vincent de Paul (Mini Vinnies) Winter Appeal

Students of Mini Vinnies have been selling hot chocolates each morning before school.  All donations going to the Winter Appeal and students raised a whopping total of $744.60.  Nazareth families also donated an amazing amount of scarves, beanies, socks, tinned food and blankets.  Anna and Yvonne from St Vincent de Paul joined our assembly on Friday to be presented with all money and donations.  Both ladies were so overwhelmed with the generosity of Nazareth families and could not believe their eyes.  A big, big thank you to the kind and generous families of the Nazareth community.  Your donations will go to help many deserving families this winter.

World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

On Monday, Year 5 led the school in a liturgy for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.  From 1 September to 4 October we celebrate the season of Creation, inspired by Pope Francis' landmark encyclical Laudato Si’, which calls on "every person living on this planet" to care for our shared Earth.

First Holy Communion

For students in Year 3 or older, who have previously celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation, there will be a parent information session on Thursday evening in the Hall at 7 pm.  Parents will receive information about preparing their child for First Holy Communion.  At least one parent must attend the parent information session.  Enrolment will be after any of the parish masses this weekend.  The celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion will be held on Sunday, 20 November 2022 at 11 am and 2 pm.  If you are preparing your child for First Holy Communion, please keep this day free.

RUOKDay.pngRUOK? Day

Today is RUOK? Day. The RUOK? initiative encourages people to stay connected and to have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. Students were encouraged to wear something yellow, such as socks, scrunchie or a ribbon. Students engaged in lessons in their classrooms around how to ask their friends if they’re OK. Look out on Facebook to see some videos of students drumming in support of RUOK? Day!

ACTIVATE Fire

Next Wednesday, 14 September Year 6 will participate in ACTIVATE fire. ACTIVATE is a primary school Youth Ministry initiative for Year 6 students. The theme of this event centres on the Sacraments of Initiation with a focus on Confirmation, based on the Year 6 unit Confirmation: Celebrating the Gift of the Holy Spirit. The day is facilitated by Catholic Youth Mission Wollongong, where students will engage in activities, games and dance.  A letter to Year 6 parents is being sent home via COMPASS.

Class Masses

This week Year 4 attended Mass on Wednesday at 9am.  Next week, Year 2 will be attending. We welcome any parents, family members or friends who wish to join their children at any of the Wednesday masses.

All Mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website:  https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
