Dear Parents and Carers,
I extend my sincere thanks to Mr Danny Sykes for his role as Interim Principal during my period of Long Service Leave. He was very impressed with the Nazareth school community and was made to feel very welcome.
The Gospel last Sunday (Matthew 22:34-40) spoke of God’s commandment of love: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself.”
Jesus asks us to express the love of God that fills our hearts, our souls and our minds, by treating others as we would want to be treated ourselves. We find in others the image of the God who is love. This week, we may like to pray that God will help us to grow in love of him. We ask that we will be able to respond to God when we see others as Christ Jesus in our midst. We also pray for peace in troubled nations, and I invite you to reflect on the prayer below.
I thank our parents for ensuring that our students wear the Nazareth summer school uniform with pride. As we near the end of the year, I ask that this continue, particularly in regard to hairstyles as outlined in our school uniform policy:
Our teachers are commencing the process of discerning 2024 class placements. Please email the school office if there is a consideration that requires my attention. I ask that considerations do not pertain to individual teachers. Please note that class placements are the result of several factors including, but not limited to:
- gender balance
- social/emotional development
- social strengths/challenges
- academic strengths/challenges
- class sizes
- diversity
- equitable classrooms
- combinations of learning styles
As you will understand, not all considerations will be able to be catered for.
If your child is having issues with another student at the school, please discuss concerns with your child’s class teacher. We ask that you do not approach the parent(s) of the other student. Please trust in the school to listen to your concerns and respond appropriately.
All Saints Day
Wednesday, 1 November was All Saints Day. All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. The following day was All Souls' Day, which is observed on November 2, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven. On all Saints day students came dressed in an appropriate colour to represent a Saint chosen for their class and learned about their Saint in their Religious Education lessons this week.
Wednesday Mass and Faith & Learning visits
This week there was a whole school mass on Wednesday at 11:30am as part of the Feast of All Saints Day, which occurs every year on 1 November. Next Wednesday, Kindergarten and Year will attend 9am mass and Kindergarten will have their final classroom visit by parents for 2024. Families of all students are warmly welcome to attend mass with their children. We love to see as many families as possible.
First Holy Communion
This week is Week 3 of the workshops for First Holy Communion, with next week being the last week of workshops. As the Transition to Kindergarten playgroup is still happening in the hall at the same time as the workshops, the Tuesday, 7:45am workshops will be held in the Year 5 classroom. Thank you so much to the parents for supporting your children and being committed to attending mass.
Catholic Mission Month
This month we have celebrated Catholic Mission Month. Last week we had a crazy sock day and all students brought along a gold coin. Students have been busy making their ‘sockball’ and the sockball shootouts are occurring this week. Due to the bad weather last Friday, the Sockball shootout was postponed. Winners from each Stage will win a canteen voucher. Thank you to everyone for supporting those in need.
Special Birthday
On Sunday, Father Joe will celebrate his birthday. A big happy birthday to Father Joe and when you see him at mass this weekend, please remember to wish Father Joe a happy day for his birthday.
All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city

This week is our final week with our focus on peer to peer respect. This week we are focusing on our final letter in FRIENDS:
S - Say you are sorry
Students will be reminded to show respect when interacting with all peers at Nazareth. They will be encouraged to acknowledge when they have made a mistake and upset a peer by apologising appropriately to repair the relationship.
Steps to Saying Sorry
- Say what you are sorry for
- Say why it was wrong
- Accept full responsibility
- Ask how to make amends
- Commit to not doing it again
- Ask for forgiveness
- Thank them
