The school community wishes to thank the students who accompanied Mrs Warfield to the Shellharbour Reconciliation Flag Walk and activities held last Monday. The day was organised by the Shellharbour City Council in conjunction with local Aboriginal people so as to acknowledge National Reconciliation Week.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. (reconciliation.org.au)
Next week (week 6) the school will officially launch our social media pages. The pages will provide reminders about school events, showcase the wonderful work that both our teachers and students do at Nazareth and also engage a positive online community for all of our families. The pages are supported and run by Nazareth staff.

MINI VINNIES
Members from the Nazareth Mini Vinnies will be coming to each class to label clothing. We are doing this because our lost property basket is overflowing with clothes that are not labelled. We would like to remind parents to label your children’s clothing. Members of the Mini Vinnies team will be visiting classes in Week 4 and Week 5 to label clothing. All clothing in lost property will go to the second hand shop if not labelled at the end of Week 6.
Thank you

HELP WANTED
We have purchased fabric to create new prayer cloths for our classroom sacred spaces. If there is a parent who is able to hem the ends of several metre square cloths to prevent fraying, your help would be much appreciated. Please see Mrs Marsh if you can help.
This term in 3L we have been focusing on the Emmaus Story. The students had to write a diary entry from the point of view of the disciples or Jesus. Here are some examples :
Dear Diary,
Today I walked next to two people who were walking to Emmaus. They didn’t recognise me. When they got to their house they invited me in for supper. When I got inside I broke the bread and said the blessing. Then they recognised me.
From Jesus.
(By Kate)
Dear Diary,
Today I was walking to Emmaus talking about Jesus who had been put to death. Suddenly a stranger started walking with us. He asked what made me so sad. I told him that Jesus had been put to death. We finally arrived in Emmaus. It was getting late, so we invited him in. He took the bread and blessed it and then broke it. We finally realised it was Jesus, but then he disappeared. So we went and told the other disciples.
From Cleopas.

In Term 2, Year 2 students have been appreciating the work of some very well known artist and have been applying it to their own artistic practice. Recently, our year 2 artists have created class murals inspired by the work of Henri Matisse. Feel free to have a look on your way to the Stage 1 building. They are a wonderful sight to see!
