As previously communicated to all families, the school’s new administration system continues to be rolled out. I thank all families that have accessed the new parent portal on Compass and I encourage those who have not, to do so as soon as possible. If you require any assistance or additional information please contact Leonie Moylan in the school office. Leonie will be able to assist with any enquiry and is able to provide support so that you will be able to access the parent portal.
I wish to thank Megan Biggs for leading the whole school in relation to learning the actions accompanied with Key Word Signing. All students are learning the signing on Tuesdays during the morning assembly. Key Word Signing deepens our understanding of word knowledge and opens options so that all students are able to communicate. Ask your children about the signing they know and what the actions mean. So far 15 words have been taught to all children. It is the intention to continue this initiative on Tuesday mornings so that as many key functional words can be learnt by everyone.
Enjoy the week ahead

MINI VINNIES VINCENTIAN YOUTH GATHERING
On Friday September 6th four of our senior students from our school community of the Mini Vinnies Team joined with several other primary and secondary schools of the Wollongong Diocese to participate in the 2019 Vincentian Youth Gathering.
During the gathering all the students enjoyed a day that celebrates the wonderful contribution of young people to the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, and our mission to seek a more Just and Compassionate world. The students took part in an Expo which displayed the work that they and others from our Mini Vinnies Teams are involved in, as well as learning about what other students are doing at their school to raise awareness of people less fortunate than themselves. The focus of the day was learning ways to become more aware of people who seek refuge and asylum in our country. The guest speakers were Father Joseph Nguyen, who gave the students an insightful look into what it is like to be a refugee, and Mr Ray Frith who has been overseeing the care of refugees and asylum seekers in Wollongong as part of his role as a volunteer with St Vincent de Paul.
Chole N, Taylor D, Isabella G and Kate H will be sharing their experiences of the day with the other students in the Mini Vinnies Teams at their meetings in the coming weeks. Thank you to the parents and carers who transported the students to this very special event.
This term in Religion we did projects on the Parable of the Sower. For this project the class were split into groups to make Kahoots (a quiz making app) and images, both those tasks were about the Parable of the Sower. Year 6 have now finished that topic and are starting a new topic on Confirmation and we are researching the saint we have chosen.

This term Year Six have been focusing on confirmation during religion. So far we have been researching different saints and picking a saint for Confirmation. We have also been on a Religious excursion with the southern cluster of schools to Saints Peter and Paul’s Church to celebrate mass with Bishop Brian Mascord.

In Religion we are preparing to make the fourth sacrament, Confirmation. At the moment we are making a poster on our chosen saint, I chose St Bernadette of Lourdes. St Bernadette was the oldest of nine children and had over 18 sightings of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in her life.
