As we draw towards the end of Term 2 (Friday July 3) I wish to acknowledge and thank all parents / carers for your patience and cooperation in relation to matters associated with COVID – 19 restrictions.
Please note that the current morning drop off and afternoon pick up arrangements will continue next Term, however there will be an adjustment in times for the afternoon pick up, refer to details in this newsletter. As we move towards Term 3 parents/carers will continue to be restricted entering the school grounds, events involving larger gatherings of adults will not be permitted and parent teacher interviews will be conducted via phone or Zoom. Whole school events including our annual Father’s Day breakfast will not be occurring. In light of current NSW Government directives and NSW Health advice it is not possible at this point of time to confirm the school’s end of year major events, including the Year 6 Graduation. I am in regular contact with Mr Justin Bowden (Response Coordinator COVID -19 CEDoW) so that current NSW Health and NSW Government directives can be acted upon. I am very aware of the impact of COVID – 19 restrictions, including the bush fire emergency at the end of last year, on our current Year 6 students. During next Term I will keep all parents/carers (particularly Year 6 parents/carers) informed of the planning associated with end of year events and amendments to school procedures. As previously communicated with you, the school’s continuous cleaning of high touch surfaces will remain in place during Term 3 (in addition to normal after hours cleaning).
I wish to extend my thanks to all Nazareth staff for their extraordinary work each day. In particular I thank them for their high level of expertise coordinating remote learning, delivering face to face teaching and their ongoing care extended to each child at Nazareth.
Take care during the time ahead and stay safe.
Peter Dempsey
Principal

YEAR 6 MASS WITH THE BISHOP
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the annual series of Year 6 Masses with the Bishop, which would have been held in August have been cancelled. This decision was made most reluctantly given the importance and significance of these celebrations and the connection they offer for the Year 6 students to be present with their Bishop. Nonetheless, the current restrictions on assemblies, gatherings and travel beyond the school necessitates their cancellation. Bishop Mascord will be preparing a brief video message for the students which will be made available in due course.
ACTIVATE FIRE – YEAR 6
ACTIVATE Fire days have been cancelled for 2020. Joel Duval and Seth Harsh are currently discussing the option of an online program to support school communities engage their Year Six students.
YEAR 4 RELIGIOUS LITERACY ASSESSMENT
The Year 4 Religious Literacy assessment has also been cancelled this year. This is usually held in August.
CHRISTMAS STORY ART COMPETITION
The Christmas Story Art Competition will continue to be conducted in 2020. Stage 3 students will once again be offered the opportunity to participate in this competition.
As per previous years, successful entries from students of the Wollongong Diocese will be selected for display at the Sydney Christmas Art Competition and Exhibition.
The format of this competition and exhibition may be modified to comply with government requirements and systemic guidelines that will be in force at the time of the competition.

- Allocated seating will be marked with stickers to ensure 1.5m distance between parishioners
- Communion will be received in the hand only (not on the tongue)
- The Attendance Monitors will maintain alertness to identify parishioners presenting with flu-like symptoms (cough, runny nose, etc.) and advise any parishioners with symptoms they must leave the premises
- Parishioners that do not feel well on the day should remain at home.
- Parishioners classified as vulnerable per AHPPC guidelines are encouraged not to attend physically

- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 50 years and older with one or more chronic medical conditions.
- People 65 years and older with chronic medical conditions. Conditions included in the definition of ‘chronic medical conditions’ will be refined as more evidence emerges. The most current list can be accessed on the Department of Health website.

In Religion this week, 5O have been learning about the fruits of the Holy Spirit. We have been learning about each attribute and how we as Christains can follow and live by these examples. Students were tasked with creating a presentation that explained and gave examples of how you could follow the attributes.
Here are some photos of us working on our presentation.

LOST PROPERTY
A number of parents have contacted the school regarding lost hats, jumpers or jackets. The Lost Property basket in the library has been cleared out, with any items with names distributed to children. A number of items had names of past students and have been returned to the clothing pool. Please ensure all items have current student’s names on them, so that they can be easily returned. If by chance your child brings home someone else’s hat or jumper, please return it to the class teacher.
FRIDAY WEEKLY ASSEMBLY
Virtual Assembly via Zoom will continue each Friday at 9:00am. A Meeting ID will be posted on Compass each Thursday afternoon. At these assemblies there will be a short prayer followed by the presentation of weekly awards.
NAIDOC WEEK
As a school we would usually celebrate NAIDOC Week in the last week of Term 2. The date for NAIDOC week has changed for 2020.
National NAIDOC Week 2020 celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November.
The November dates follow the decision by the National NAIDOC Committee (NNC) to postpone NAIDOC Week from the original July dates due to the impacts and uncertainty from the escalating Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across our communities and cities.
The postponement was aimed at protecting our elders and those in our communities with chronic health issues from the disastrous impacts of COVID19.
As a school community we will recognise these celebrations in November.
This week some students had the opportunity to cook Damper with Mr Mongta. The students learnt that this was an easy process and they only required flour, salt and milk. It was enjoyed fresh out of the oven with some butter and jam.
