Yesterday Years 1 – 6 where able to attend Mass so as to acknowledge Ash Wednesday. Kindergarten participated in an age appropriate prayer service also to acknowledge the day. Ash Wednesday commences the season of Lent, the 40 days of preparation which lead up to the celebration of Easter. In conjunction with Ash Wednesday our Year 6 students attended the virtual launch of this year’s Project Compassion program coordinated by Caritas Australia. Engaging with Project Compassion is an excellent way to focus on the season of Lent (a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving). This year the theme of Project Compassion is ‘Be More’. This phrase has it’s context from a quote from St Oscar Romero…
‘Aspire not to have more, but to be more’ .
I ask all parents/carers to reflect on these words and in your own way appropriate to your circumstances, I encourage you to respond to what is asked of us this Lent.
Take care and enjoy the week ahead.

RECONCILIATION WORKSHOPS
Thank you to the parents who have already attended the first Reconciliation workshop with their children yesterday. Tomorrow afternoon these workshops will continue. Our apologies for the photocopies of the first booklet, as the booklets had not yet arrived. The booklets have now arrived and today students were given the booklets in preparation for their after-school workshops. Parents are asked to read pages 10-15 in preparation for next week’s workshops. Thank you for the support you are showing your children and the value you are placing on this important sacrament.
2021 is going to be a great year!
Already we have been so busy with making our own class rules as well as coming up with rewards and consequences that match these rules. In Religious Education, God’s Ten Commandments are similar to our classroom rules. If we follow them, we will all be safe, happy and life-long learners.
Did you know that Jesus also gave us a commandment? “Love others as I have loved you.”
In 4A, we are “Bucket Fillers!” A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people.
Did you know that when we are filling other people's buckets, we are filling our own bucket at the same time.
We have been reading the book, “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing,” by Judy Blume, which is so funny. Lots of us have already made lots of connections with this story.
Did you know that 3 year old little brothers can be really annoying when you’re in Fourth Grade?
We are really enjoying learning about Australia’s Aboriginal History and how country, language, art, dreaming stories, ceremonies and dance are all important parts of Aboriginal culture.
Did you know that there used to be over 600 different language groups across Australia and now there are only about 250 language groups left?
In Science we are talking about “Energy.” We found out that we already know quite a bit, but we have also listed some things we would like to find out about different types of energy and where it comes from.
Did you know that when we slide down a slippery dip, that we are using gravitational energy?
We love having different teachers for Music, Drama and Physical Education, just like high school. Our teacher, Miss Wright already thinks we are the best class and that we are great role models for other students.
It’s hard to believe we have done so much already and it’s only Week 4. We are looking forward to lots of new learning and fun experiences in Year 4 this year! Stay tuned!
Jesus and the Children
In Year 1 we have been reading a story from the Bible called 'Jesus and the Children'. In this story, some people wanted to take their children to see Jesus and get a blessing from him. Jesus was standing with his disciples. When the people reached Jesus, the disciples sent them away and said that Jesus was too busy to see them. But Jesus saw what was happening and he was very upset with his disciples for wanting to send the children away. “Let the children come to me,” he said, “and don’t stop them! Because God’s kingdom belongs to people who are just like them.” Jesus welcomed and blessed the children.
