Welcome back to Nazareth for Term 2. I hope all families enjoyed the break from school routine over the Easter holiday period. Term 2 has started very well with students returning to school happy and keen to be engaged with their learning. The further easing of some COVID restrictions has enabled planning for the months ahead and for the school to revert back to previously established morning drop off and afternoon dismissal procedures. I continue to thank all families for your ongoing cooperation and support whilst we all navigate through this turbulent time.
Congratulations to all children who participated in our school Cross Country at the end of last Term and special thank you to the 15 Corpus Christi students who assisted staff and students on the day. On Tuesday the Nazareth representative Cross Country Team competed in the Diocesan carnival at Wilandra, west of Nowra. All students run the challenging 2 km course magnificently and some achieved outstanding results. In particular special acknowledgement congratulations to Reid Coelho who won his race and Sonny Cocksedge who finished 5th in his race. Both of these boys will now represent the Wollongong Diocese at Eastern Creek in Sydney. Out of 31 schools, the Nazareth team finished overall in 5th place.

On May 6 and 7 Years 5 & 6 will be attending a 2 day excursion to Canberra. After an extended period of time of strict restrictions the school is now able to offer this excellent learning experience for our older students. The visit to Canberra aligns with and supports the curriculum with a specific focus on Federal government. Lisa Tyson will be available at Nazareth to assist any families as required whilst I am in Canberra with the Stage 3 students.
Students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be involved in NAPLAN from May 11 to May 21 (and Years 7 and 9 in secondary schools). NAPLAN will consist of assessments in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. NAPLAN will be administered online this year with the exception of Year 3 Writing which will be paper based.
Student Reports (Year 1 – Year 6) will be issued by the end of Week 9 this Term. All going well and if there are no new restrictions placed on schools, parent teacher interviews will also be offered during Week 10 of this Term. This will provide an opportunity for parents/carers to meet with your child’s teacher so as to discuss in detail your child’s learning progress.
Take care and enjoy the week ahead.
Peter Dempsey
Principal
This Friday, 30 April, KS, KN and 5B will be attending Mass at 9am at All Saints Church. We would love families to join us.
In remembering our ANZACS, we gathered as a school community last Friday. Year 5 presented a liturgy to commemorate ANZAC Day. It was heartwarming to gather as a school community for the first time.
MOTHER'S DAY
Mother’s Day will be celebrated at Nazareth on Friday, 7 May. Year 2 will lead us in prayer. We give thanks for our mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, godmothers, aunts and anyone who is like a mother to us. (Mother's Day stall Tuesday, 4 May)
On Mother’s Day, Sunday, 9 May Kindergarten students will be attending Mass at 9am and have been requested by Father Joe to present a hymn for all mothers in the parish. We encourage families to join us to celebrate.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Names have now been taken for all students to be presented for Confirmation. Please contact the Parish Office if you have not yet registered your child for the sacrament of Confirmation. Enrolment forms will be distributed at this weekend’s masses.
PARISH BULLETIN
Each week All Saints Parish continues to present a Bulletin with the weekend Readings and other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: http://www.allsaintscatholic.org.au/allsaintscatholic/Welcome.html
In Religious Education, KN have commenced their new unit of work ‘The Easter season’. We have set our prayer space in the classroom with colours and symbols that remind us we are in the season of Easter. During this unit, Kindergarten have been learning that at Easter, we remember and celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. This week, KN drew a picture of ‘Jesus is risen’ using oil pastels.

ANZAC picollage and work with Mr Dempsey
We have hit the ground running in 6R, this term. We are excitedly preparing for our overnight excursion to Canberra next week. As part of these preparations we have been learning about the War Memorial. In the week leading up to ANZAC Day, Mr Dempsey came and taught us about the importance of the War Memorial and in particular, he shared with us the story of the “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier”.
We listened to the song “The Spirit of the ANZACs” to hear the story of this important part of Australian history. Our picollage’s share what we have learned.
The school invites parents/carers to visit classrooms from 12:30pm on Friday May 14. Following the open classrooms parents/carers are welcome to share a picnic lunch with your child/ren in the playground.
