It has been an absolute delight to once again offer our Transition to School Playgroup. The playgroup recommenced last week for the 2023 Kindergarten cohort following a pause during the time that we were impacted by COVID-19. The children have loved the organised structured play time and it has been a great time to meet parents and introduce them to Nazareth school. The playgroup will continue to be offered during the weeks ahead.
The school is in the process of finalizing matters associated with the expansion of the play equipment in the Kindergarten playground area. The new play equipment will promote creative play and is in the form of a small town including a shop, a bank, a hospital, a bus stop and an ice cream van. The little town has been designed to flow on from the existing climbing equipment and to incorporate the blue friendship seat. The cost of the expansion of the play equipment will be covered by school and P&F funds. The P&F is making a substantial contribution to the overall cost and I wish to extend my thanks for their support of this worthwhile project. The intention is for the play equipment to be installed and ready for use for the new school year.
Preparation is well underway in relation to the 2022 Year 6 Mass and Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday Dec 7. Following Mass, Year 6 students and their parents will join with staff for the Graduation Ceremony which will be held for the first time in the Shellharbour Civic Centre Auditorium. The ceremony will include dinner and will incorporate the traditional components of previous graduations.
Congratulations to Olivia Sarin and Layla Makovski who both represented Nazareth at the Diocesan Public Speaking Competition which was held on Wednesday at St John’s Dapto. Both students spoke very well and were excellent representatives of their families and their school.
Enjoy the week ahead

During the month of October Australia joins the rest of the world to celebrate “World Teachers’ Day”. The theme for World Teachers Day 2022 is, “The transformation of education begins with teachers”.
On Friday 28 October Australia celebrates World Teachers Day and this year they have invited Australians to take their “hats off” to acknowledge the outstanding work that they do and the great resilience that our teachers have needed to navigate the challenges of recent years.
As we approach this day we inevitably begin to think of those teachers that have had a particularly profound impact on us. It may have been their exceptional knowledge or passion for a subject, the way they related to students, or the energy they brought to the classroom.
Jesus was a great teacher and educator and as we look back over his life, we can begin to see how he clearly transformed the lives of so many. Mary and Martha, Zachhaeus, The Woman at the Well, The Blind Man, the figures on the road to Emmaus and the lives of the Disciples to name just a few.
The question underlying all of these encounters is, what did Jesus do to support this transformative response? On close inspection, there are three consistent elements which appear again and again across each encounter;
Jesus met them where they were at.
He didn’t leave them where he found them.
He took them to a place where they couldn’t have gone on their own.
Jesus truly knew the people he was encountering. He deeply listened and he had a sense of what he needed to do to help move them to a place they were seeking to go. For all working in the sphere of education today, it is a model which is so powerful and relevant.
As we acknowledge World Teachers’ Day this Friday we are all invited to reflect on those teachers who have had the greatest impact on our lives and to consider ways we might emulate the example of Jesus and these great teachers.
First Holy Communion
The first of four student workshops for the preparation of First Holy Communion began this week. Parents, remember to be punctual to the workshops with your child. This term in English 4R is learning about poetry. Each week we are focusing on a different poetic device, this week's poetic device is alliteration. Here are some of the simply stunning poems we have created.

In 5B this term the students are studying poetry. The first task was to come up with a class definition of poetry and then to write their own Haiku poem. A Haiku poem has three lines, five syllables, seven syllables and then five syllables, which can be tricky to write correctly. Students were asked to write a poem about nature and they wrote some excellent Haiku poems.
