Lord, teach me to be generous,
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing that I do your will.
Amen
As we continue the season of Lent, we are invited to consider the ways in which we prepare for the greatest time of the Church year - Easter. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, and for doing so with quiet humility. It is a time for us to practice good habits and to become more Christ-like in our interactions with others and with our world. All students at Nazareth are learning about Lent in their Religious Education lessons. I invite you to engage in conversations with your child/ren so that they can share their knowledge with you, and to share time in prayer with your child during Lent, perhaps in attendance at one of the Masses at All Saints Church:

Our Stage 3 Leadership Teams have been selected and the students have commenced their various roles. Our School Spirit Team did an outstanding job guiding school tours last week and will continue these tours until the end of March. The Environment Team led the school in our Clean Up Nazareth Day last week and the Sports Team does amazing work to ensure that sport equipment is ready for the children to play with each day. The students in these teams have accepted these leadership roles to support the smooth running of our school community, and we are very grateful for their enthusiasm and dedication.
I extend congratulations to all of the students who have recently trialled for representative sport, those who have been selected for representative sport, and to those who have recently competed in the Primary South Coast Region Swimming Carnival. Their love of sport and dedication to training and preparation is inspiring. In

Reconciliation
For all students preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, workshops are now underway and continue this week and conclude next week. This is the time for you and your child to come together to have a conversation about the topics in the workbooks and to ask any questions that you may have. Please be on time to the workshops and remember to bring the workbooks with you that you were given out at mass. This week at Mass, students will be given a Holy card.
Confirmation
If you have a child who is Year 6 or older and you would like them to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, there will be a parent information and name recording session on Thursday 30th March 2023 at 7:00pm in the Hall. The celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation will be held on Tuesday 18th July & Wednesday 19th July 2023 at 7:00pm.
Lent - Project Compassion
We have now entered into the season of Lent, this being the third week of Lent, marking the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion. Each family has received a Project Compassion box for their donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion.
This week through Project Compassion we learn about Tereesa, a Gamilaroi woman from Western Sydney who struggled with homelessness while raising her four children. At just 16 years old, she had to leave school after falling pregnant with her first child. A single mother struggling with homelessness, Tereesa’s only concern was finding stability for her children.
Seeking a better future for her family, Tereesa joined Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation’s Young Mums and Bubs Group, supported by Caritas Australia. Baabayn helped Tereesa access housing and psychological support. Through Baabayn, Tereesa was also able to hear stories from Indigenous Elders and reconnect with her culture.
Today, Tereesa is studying for a certificate in Community Services so that she can strengthen her skills and give back to her community. Tereesa now works at Baabayn, providing support to young mothers and mentoring the next generation of young people.
Watch a short film about Tereesa’s story here.
Please support Project Compassion: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion.
Each family has received a Project Compassion box and they can be returned to either the school or Parish Office by Week 11.
Wednesday Mass and Faith & Learning visits
Next week on Wednesday Year 1 will be attending mass at 9am. After mass we would love all of the families to join their children in the classroom to enjoy a snapshot of their learning. We warmly invite all parents, family members or friends who wish to join the children at any of the Wednesday masses. We love to see as many families there as possible.
All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
In Religion in 5B we have been looking at the time of Lent. We have looked at the meaning of Ash Wednesday, the story of Jesus in the Desert and we have engaged in discussions about almsgiving during Lent particularly Project Compassion and the life of St Vincent de Paul.
KS have been busy settling into life at big school. We have been learning all of our school routines, making friends, playing and learning. Some of our favourite things so far include the canteen, playing with our friends, playing games, visiting our school Library, and meeting our buddies. We’ve been so busy we might need a holiday soon!
In Maths, we are learning about numbers to 20. We have been counting forwards and backwards, and reading, ordering, matching, and representing the numbers. Have a look at some of our clever Maths work!

Week 6 and 7 Focus
During Week 6 and 7 our focus for PB4L has been a recess and lunch focus. When the music plays at recess and lunch students are asked to stop what they are doing and sit where they are. Students wait to be dismissed by the teachers on duty before walking to their lines or the toilet.
How Exciting! New Playground Equipment for Year 1 and 2!
The school recently purchased some new playground equipment for students in Year 1 and 2 to use when it is their turn to play on the concrete at recess and lunchtime. The children are really enjoying playing with the new equipment!
