Dear Parents and Caregivers,
October is the month of the Rosary, a Catholic devotional prayer associated with Mary, the mother of Jesus. The Rosary is the story of the New Testament. Each decade is recited in honour of a Mystery in Our Lord’s Life and that of His Blessed Mother. The Church asks us to regularly pray the Rosary, as our prayers made in union with Mary, can obtain the great gift of conversion of hearts and peace throughout the world.
Dear God,
Help us to always take time to reflect on our lives and to regularly pray to you. Help us to embrace the Rosary as a special prayer to Mary and a specific way of reflecting on the events of her life with Jesus. By doing so we can add sense and meaning to our own lives.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord, AMEN.
I would like to welcome back staff, students and parents to Term 4. It is amazing to think that we are less than ten weeks away from the Christmas holidays. Where has this year gone? I trust that all the children enjoyed their holiday and had a chance to spend time with family and friends, enjoying the wonderful weather.
I conclude my three week block at Nazareth tomorrow as Relieving Principal and the experience has been so positive. I have come to know what a dynamic, happy school it is, filled with students who are respectful and strive to do their best and staff who work tirelessly to support the children and their families in any possible way. I know the school community will warmly welcome back Mrs Tyson and we hope that she has had an exciting, yet relaxing break. Thanks for your support and warm welcome and I wish everyone a great end to the school year.
Danny Sykes
RELIEVING PRINCIPAL.
Wednesday Mass and Faith & Learning visits
This week Year 4 will attend 9am mass on Wednesday and will have the classroom visit by parents. Next week Years 1 and 6 will be attending 9am mass and Year 6 will have their final learning visit this year to the classroom with parents. Families of all students are warmly welcome to attend mass with their children. We love to see as many families as possible.
First Holy Communion
Workshops for First Holy Communion have begun. This week is the first of four workshops. As the Transition to Kindergarten playgroup is happening in the hall at the same time as the workshops, the Tuesday, 7:45am workshops will be held in the Year 5 classroom. Remember, the booklets are to be completed at the workshops with your child.
Catholic Mission Month
This month marks Catholic Mission Month. The theme of this year’s mission month is ‘Hearts on Fire Feet on the Move’, renamed ‘Socktober’ raising awareness for the life-giving work of lay and religious missionaries around the world. Students will be making their own ‘sockball’ and will participate in a sockball shootout for the honour of being the best shooter on Friday, 27 October. For the privilege of entering the competition, children are asked to bring in a gold coin donation with all money raised going to children in Timor-Leste providing vital medicines and health support. Thank you for your support in assisting those in need.
All Saints Day
Wednesday, 1 November is All Saints Day. There will be a whole school mass, with Stella Maris, at 11:30am. As this is the All Saints Church parish feast day, all students are asked to come dressed as a Saint to celebrate the day. Each class has been given a Saint in which to dress up as, along with a symbol for that Saint. Teachers will communicate this to their individual classes.
All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
This term Year 6 is revisiting the seven sacraments of the Church with the focus of our learning on the importance of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and the sacrament of Marriage. We are learning about how they fit into our Catholic faith.
The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick gives strength, comfort and courage to the sick person, brings physical and spiritual healing and forgives sins. The two main symbols and rituals in this sacrament come from ancient times (the Old Testament tradition). Laying on of hands symbolises the calling of the Holy Spirit. It is done in silence, followed by the prayer calling on the Holy Spirit. Anointing with oil is a sign of the grace of the Holy Spirit giving strength, courage and peace.
The sacrament of Marriage is a covenant between a couple. Marriage symbolises this covenant relationship with God as it is a sign of the life of communion the Church is called to be. Marriage also symbolises the sacramentality of all right relationships; as human love and friendship can be sacramental signs. Like all covenants, marriage is permanent and is based on mutual fidelity.
This was our task:
Yarran and Minjarra the ladybugs, collected a group of aphids to eat and they need to work out how to share the aphids to form equal groups. We learnt that aphids are small insects that ladybugs eat.
Here are the recordings of our investigation:

In Week 2 we are focusing on N - know when you need to support each other
In Week 3 we will look at D - Do the right thing…even if no one is looking
Students will receive playground tokens when they are seen to be displaying these qualities on the playground at recess and lunch.
