Last weekend we commemorated Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day is more than just remembering those who have died in battle. Remembrance Day serves as a reminder that peace is possible, but it requires effort, vulnerability, and compassion. We must work towards a world where conflicts can be resolved through authentic listening and understanding rather than violence. Let us remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and let us strive for a world where their sacrifice was not in vain.
Nazareth had two significant improvement goals for 2023.
1. By the end of 2023, students will be proficient in reading for comprehension so that expected learning growth can be achieved in reading.
2. By the end of 2023, community engagement will improve so that students, parents and carers have deepened knowledge and understanding of the faith, wellbeing and learning at Nazareth.
Goal 1 has been achieved through ongoing staff professional learning, the provision of regular quality reading opportunities, the teaching of comprehension strategies in all key learning areas, the implementation of the revised K-2 English syllabus and the strategic analysis of reading data across the school.
Goal 2 has been achieved through the implementation of Faith and Learning Visits, weekly Celebration of Learning assemblies, regular communication to families via social media, COMPASS and the school newsletter, increased engagement with the All Saints Parish and increased opportunities for parents to volunteer to support the community.
Over Term 4 the Nazareth staff have been analysing data to commence the formulation of our draft 2024 goals:
2024 Goal 1 will focus on the Vision and Mission of Nazareth and how it is experienced and lived in the life of the school.
2024 Goal 2 will focus on assessment informed instruction to improve learning outcomes.
These goals will be further refined and shared with the school community at the end of the year.
As we near the end of Term 4 2023, I invite you to take time to reflect on the events of 2023 and consider the growth in faith, learning and wellbeing that has taken place for your child/children. The primary school years move very quickly, and so much is achieved in such a short time.
Wednesday Mass and Faith & Learning visits
This week Year 4 attended Wednesday Mass. For the first time our students joined the parishioners in saying the Angelus. Students took prayer cards with them and were so reverent in praying this prayer. Next Wednesday, Years 1 and 6 will attend 9am mass and Year 1 will have their final classroom visit by parents for 2024. Families of all students are warmly welcome to attend mass with their children. We love to see as many families as possible.
First Holy Communion
Students have now completed their First Holy Communion workshops and now know their mass time for Sunday, 26 November to receive their sacrament. Please pray for all Year 3 students receiving this most important sacrament.Thank you so much to the parents for supporting your children and being committed to attending mass.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Over the next three weeks we will be calling for donations to St Vincent de Paul to assist members of our community at Christmas time. More details will follow next week.
All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
Last week Year 5 attended mass with Fr Hung. In the homily he spoke about one of the Ten Commandments, love. Fr posed a question to us about love and how we can show it. He said “how do we show love in what we do? And how do we show love in what we don’t do?
5O took this question back and discussed what this might look like and sound like for us as a grade. Below are some examples of what we came up with.
1S have had a very busy and exciting start to term 4! Library visit, Chicks/Ducks, Socktober fun, class reward (with another one coming) and our excursion to the education centre at Wollongong Botanic Gardens amongst other things!
We have welcomed two new class members - William and Chidubem!
At the beginning of the term we were lucky enough to have chicks and ducklings for our Science unit on life cycles. We really enjoyed watching the chicks and ducks hatch and observe how they grow and change over the two weeks we definitely learnt a lot about life cycles.

We were also finally able to visit Shellharbour City Library (after our first visit was rained out) and were so excited to learn and explore the different areas of the library.
On Tuesday we visited Wollongong Botanic Gardens. It was such a beautiful day and the gardens looked amazing. We learnt about lots of insects, bees, life cycles of the sunflower, filtering water and tropical and desert plants. It was a great experience for all of us.

We still have a few more weeks to go and are looking forward to it!
Dragon Tag Gala Day
The Dragon Tag Gala Day held at Reed Park in Dapto was a huge success. Many of our teams were undefeated and all of our teams showed excellent sportsmanship and fair play. A big thanks to all of the parent volunteers who assisted with managing teams, without your support we are unable to enter teams and take students so we really appreciate your assistance. Another thanks to the teachers who supported and attended on the day.

This week our PB4L focus is about being respectful and showing good audience manners. Classroom teachers will revise with their students how to be respectful by using appropriate audience manners for assemblies, celebrations of learning and other school gatherings in the hall. Students will be reminded to do the following:
- Enter the hall with voice code 0;
- Sit quietly on their bottom with their legs crossed in class lines;
- Have their lips closed and eyes to the front;
- Look at and listen to the person speaking;
- Participate in prayers and songs respectfully;
- Stand and sit quietly when invited to do so;
- Clap only with their hands;
- Wait until the final person has received their award before clapping;
- Exit the hall in two lines with voice code 0.
