As the end of the school year approaches I remind all families that the season of Advent has commenced. Advent, the time period leading up to Christmas, is a time of prayer and reflection. A time to focus on the miracle of Christmas so that we don’t become lost in the ever increasing commercialism of the Christmas season. To support prayer during Advent the Diocese of Wollongong has made available an excellent booklet titled ‘The Way’. The booklet provides the scriptural readings of Advent and words of reflection. I would be very happy to supply a copy of the booklet to whoever may like one. Contact the school office and I will arrange for a copy to be sent to you.
I know that there is a lot of information being sent to parents from the school at this time. Information associated with many key events and the necessity for everyone to navigate through a new communication system has been at times somewhat challenging. I thank everyone for your patience and cooperation.
Please remember the importance of adhering to all aspects of safety around the school precinct before and after school. Specifically, all cars must be driven at walking pace when in the church car park and if walking across Glider Ave, the pedestrian crossing must be used. Safety is a collective responsibility shared by all of us.
I encourage you to continue to pray the following prayer for rain.
Eternal God,
In wisdom and love you created our earth to sustain us and give us life.
We turn to you now in faith, hope and love, asking you to look with favour on our drought-stricken land, on our starving animals and failing crops.Strengthen, sustain and give new heart to our farmers and all who are affected by drought. In your loving providence, send abundant rain and restore our parched earth. Father of all compassion, hear our prayer through Jesus Christ your Son, in whom the promise of new life has dawned, and through the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life: Renew your faithful people, renew the faith of the earth.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL
You can help end poverty
Christmas should be a special time for everyone. Many within our local community find the financial strain of Christmas too much to bear. Now is your chance to give back and help to change someone’s life for the better.
This year the Mini Vinnies team have organised each grade to donate a specific festive item.
Kindergarten – Lollies / Candy canes
Year 1 – Christmas cookies / shortbread
Year 2 – Bon-bons
Year 3 – Chips / popcorn
Year 4 – Christmas chocolates / chocolates
Year 5 – Fruit cake / Mince tarts
Year 6 – Savoury biscuits
Please donate and give the gift of hope this Christmas. Donations can be donated to the school and will be collected in the classrooms. Please be careful to ensure that food is not past the best by or used by date for Christmas.
We are also taking donations of Christmas shopping bags to package the items in. All donations can be given to the class teacher.
These donations will be presented to St Vincent de Paul at the end of the year Christmas Celebration.
YEAR SIX GRADUATION
We are calling for students from the choir or siblings of Year Six students who would like to participate in Mass for our Year Six Graduation. We are hoping to form a choir to support the singing at the Graduation Mass on Wednesday 11th December at 6pm. If your child is able to assist, please ask them to ask Mrs Marsh for a note with further details.

WHAT TO WEAR: The students are advised to wear white clothes, the colour can stain the clothes so please ensure that you are happy for your children to wear them to school.
HATS: Children are permitted to wear a hat from home and not to wear school hats for the day. Please be advised that this hat will get colour on it and may be stained.
OUTLINE OF THE DAY’S ACTIVITIES: Please be advised that the day will be filmed by the organising company of the colour run. We will ensure that the children being filmed have full consent. The run should commence from 11:00 am. The children will participate within grades through various obstacle courses, they will run through stations where parents and teachers will spray the children with the colour bottles.
STUDENTS WITH ASTHMA: If your child has asthma, please ensure that they have a puffer at school. The material used for the colour run is safe for the children and consists of cornstarch and food safe dye. If children would like to avoid the colour stations, they have the option of running around the right hand side of the stations and they will not be sprayed with the colour.
WHAT IF MY CHILD DOES NOT WANT TO PARTICIPATE: If your child does not want to participate in the colour run, they can run with the rest of the children and opt to run on the right hand side of the stations. The staff and parents on the various stations will not apply colour to the children that approach the right hand side of the stations.
PARENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE RUN: We would like to invite all parents to participate in the colour run, however a waiver form must be signed on the day.
DISMISSAL & CATCHING THE BUS HOME: The students are permitted to leave school at the conclusion of the colour run. Children may accompany their parents home after the colour run is finished (remember names are to be marked off the teachers class lists). If your child remains at school for the full day and needs to catch the bus home they must have a change of clothes, shoes and a towel packed to be able to catch the school bus home.
