I am very pleased to report that the vast majority of children have made an excellent transition back to school following the extended time of home based remote learning. Children are presenting happily at school and everyone is engaged with their learning. I do acknowledge that for some children it has been challenging to return to school. I want to reassure parents/carers of children that are finding it harder to return to school that the Nazareth staff are available to assist and support you and your child.
All newly introduced procedures at Nazareth are in place and working well, however I am continuously evaluating and refining all procedures as required. I am particularly pleased with the new morning drop off and afternoon pick up arrangements. The morning drop off and the utilisation of the car park with 4 staff assisting children out of cars is running smoothly. Please be aware that if you are using the drop off area on Glider Ave (signage indicates No Parking) that the driver of the vehicle will be required to assist children out of the car. A staff member will be supervising children from the small gate as they enter the school. If you choose to park elsewhere on Glider Ave you may walk with your child(ren) to either gate on Glider Ave and say good bye to them at the gate. Please use the pedestrian crossing if crossing Glider Ave and remember the Bus Bay is not a drop off area (heavy fines apply from Council Rangers and/or Police).
The afternoon pick up arrangement is now operating very well. I thank everyone for your cooperation and patience. I observed yesterday that the traffic disruption on College Ave and Benson Ave has reduced significantly. The refinements of asking everyone to arrive only in your allocated time, adjusting the surname break down (2:20pm A-J, 2:40pm K-Z), no parking of vehicles and loading 5 vehicles at the pickup point, have all contributed to the efficient flow of vehicles. As stated in previous correspondence it is much safer to approach the car park entrance from the north along College Ave (as if driving from Stockland shops). School buses are still operating as per normal times and routes.
The new arrangement of continuous cleaning in the school throughout the day is going very well. Cleaning staff continually clean with appropriate detergent / disinfectant products high touch surfaces, door knobs and toilets. The normal scheduled cleaning still occurs after school hours.
I am pleased to announce that our school canteen will be reopening next Monday. A new business, ‘Fresh Start Canteens’ will be operating the canteen. Please refer to additional information in the newsletter including opening times and menu. I wish to thank the previous provider of this service, Made Fresh.
During these challenging times it is easy overlook other important dates and events. This week is National Reconciliation Week and children in each class will be acknowledging this in a variety of ways. ‘Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.’ I encourage you to refer to the following link so as to gain a deeper understanding about the significance of this week.
Please remember in your prayers the many people who are in need during this current time.
Take care.

EASTER TO PENTECOST
As we return to school we are at the end of the Easter Season in the Church Year. This week our sacred spaces are white. This weekend is Pentecost, an opportunity to have the red cloth on the prayer space for a couple of days. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit comes to the disciples encouraging them to spread the Good News.
On Friday 29th May at 9:00am the whole school will join together at 9:00am via Zoom to pray together to celebrate Pentecost. This will be followed by the announcement of weekly awards. Parents are most welcome to join in via Zoom using the Meeting ID: 95624102482
Please respect that all members will be asked to enter the prayer on mute and adhere to our Remote Learning Guidelines for participating in Zoom Meetings.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN REMOTE LEARNING
We take this opportunity to thank parents for encouraging you child’s engagement in Religious Education during remote learning. A number of videos were used to teach the children the stories of Easter. A stand out was “Pray School” designed for K-2 students and produced at the Catholic Education Office, Wollongong. PROJECT COMPASSION
The Project Compassion appeal came to an end at Easter. If you have a full or partially full Project Compassion box at home, the school is collecting these and will forward monies to Project Compassion. Please return all boxes by the end of next week.
NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
This week classes were involved in activities to celebrate National Reconciliation Week. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2020 is In This Together.
Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
For the Catholic Church in Australia, this week offers us a time to be fully the Church that Jesus wants us to be - a Church in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples make their own unique contribution and that contribution is joyfully received by others.
Each week All Saints Parish continues to present a Bulletin with the weekend Readings and other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: http://www.allsaintscatholic.org.au/allsaintscatholic/Welcome.html
Please find the latest bulletin below.
In Religion this week, 3H have been looking at Good News stories within our Catholic community.
We listened to a good news story about a cafe in Appin where the owner set up a Community Pantry in which local community members could take what they needed or leave what they could. A tab for coffee was also started where people who had lost their jobs were able to go and get a coffee. This good news story was set up to help people in need and to give hope and confidence within the local community. 3H were able to relate this story to Jesus as he helped and gave hope to his community.
Together we have shared good news stories within our community that we have heard about, discussed what we can do for people we know or even people we haven’t met yet, what action we can take to help build a better community and what the Nazareth school community can do to connect which is helping to build the Kingdom in which we all live.

RETURN TO FACE TO FACE TEACHING
Thank you to all parents for supporting your children in the remote learning format. We have now returned to a face to face teaching format. Please note that teachers will not be using See-Saw as a communication tool from now on. Please write a note or contact the school office with any communication for the teacher. The school will continue to use COMPASS as a means of communicating with parents.
REPORTS AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
An Interim Academic Report will be made available to parents before the end of term. This report will differ from previous years. The Interim Report will reflect the learning engagement undertaken during classroom and remote learning over the course of Term 1 and mid Term 2, 2020. The Key Learning Areas of Religious Education, English and Mathematics will be a focus. These areas have been a key focus for many of the classroom and remote learning experiences delivered during Terms 1 and 2.
Parent Teacher interviews will take place in the first half of Term Three. More information will follow on the date, format and times for these.
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
Learning with 6U
Year 6U hit remote learning and teaching head on. In 6U, students attended more Zoom meetings than Mrs Rowles can count and worked independently on tasks each day. All students took this mode of learning in their stride and became responsible for their learning and achievements. Students began work on their notable people, beginning to understand that there are so many amazing people in our world that have contributed immensely to society.
On Friday, May 22nd, year 6 signified the end of official remote learning with a poster competition. Students created posters saying, “I survived remote learning!”
