It is with mixed emotions that I inform our Nazareth school community that Mrs Jodi Marsh will be leaving Nazareth at the end of 2020. After 18 years and countless contributions to learning and teaching, and to the Catholic life of our school, Jodi has accepted the role of Religious Education Coordinator (REC) at St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, Albion Park. Although Jodi will be greatly missed by our Nazareth community, I am confident that she will be able to make significant contributions to St Paul’s Albion Park in her senior leadership position of REC.
This week, the staff and students have commemorated Remembrance Day and celebrated NAIDOC Week.
As always, Remembrance Day was observed at Nazareth by pausing and participating in a prayerful liturgy at 11am on 11th November. This day, a day to remember and honour all Australians who have served, marks the time and date of the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. It is important that our children continue to learn about, and to acknowledge this day.
Lest We Forget.
The theme for NAIDOC Week 2020 is “Always Was, Always Will Be”. It celebrates that our nations story began long before European contact and that the first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our students have participated in a variety of NAIDOC activities and Mark Mongta, our Aboriginal Education Assistant, performed a smoking ceremony for our staff and students.
Thank you for your continued understanding as we navigate our way through current restrictions.
Take care,
Lisa Tyson
Acting Principal
SOCIAL JUSTICE FUNDRAISING DAY
To support World Mission Month and the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal, members of the Mini Vinnies team have organised a Social Justice Fundraising Day on Thursday 19th November. Students are invited to dress in active wear or as their favourite sport star and donate “Coins for Change”.
Students will be involved in creating a ball from recycled materials, similar to those used in countries like Cambodia by the children. Students will then have an opportunity to play a game in their Year group with the ball.
This year St Vincent de Paul are not collecting food items or Christmas presents from schools to donate to those less fortunate. Instead St Vincent de Paul are asking for monetary donations which they can then convert into gift cards for families in need. To allow time for these donations to be distributed we are collecting now. Students will be creating Christmas cards with a positive message that can be forwarded to those in need from our local Shellharbour St Vincent de Paul group.
I invite the students to give generously on this day in order to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

HATCHING CHICKENS
Kindergarten and Year one have had some very special fluffy visitors this week...chicken and duck eggs! This week we have been watching them hatch and grow. We now have 4 chicks & 4 ducklings. We are learning about the life cycle of different animals and how animals grow and change as they get older. In Year 1, Miss Reid and Mrs Jedrzejczak are so proud of the amazing writing that Year 1 has accomplished in the last week! (Picture is of Brody J writing)

On Friday 4th December, Year 6 will once again host their annual Summer Fun Day. This day raises funds for the Year 6 Graduation gift back to the school community. For a gold coin donation, students can dress up in “summer” style mufti for the day. Eg shorts, t-shirts, Hawaian shirts, lays, sunnies, hats. Please note students should wear school-appropriate footwear and sun protective clothing. Students across the school will spend part of the day participating in fun activities organised by the year 6 students themselves. It is always a great event, which gets all students and staff feeling summery and fun for the end of year festivities.
Behaviour Expectations – Students will wear their school hats for all outdoor activities, including lunch, recess and sport time.
In Science this term, we are learning about ‘Living Things’. We have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly, frog, plant and chicken.
We made our own bean houses and planted a bean seed. This is how we made them:
1. First we got a snap lock bag.
2. Next we put some soil in the bag.
3. After that we planted a seed in the soil.
4. Lastly we sprayed the soil.
We have hung our bean houses on the classroom windows so they will get some sunlight and we left the bags open so we can water them.
We are so excited to watch them grow!
