On behalf of all staff I welcome everyone back to Nazareth to commence the new school year. I welcome new families to the school including the 59 new Kindergarten children and 16 other new children from Year 1 to Year 6. I hope everyone has enjoyed the school holiday time and that everyone has had time to do the things you love to do as a family. From visiting classrooms and speaking with children in the playground, it is clear that the children are happy to be back at school and are ready for the new year ahead.
As previously communicated various COVID restrictions are still in place and I will ensure that all parents/carers are kept up to date with the latest information from the NSW Government, NSW Health and Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong.
I acknowledge and thank all families who adhere to the school’s uniform policy and remind everyone that the Nazareth school uniform has a long history and is an important part of our school. Please note the following details associated with the Nazareth uniform:
(Uniform policy summer boys, girls, sports uniform, hair and jewellery)
Nazareth School Uniform
I welcome all staff back to Nazareth and thank them for their preparation ensuring a smooth start to the new year. In particular I welcome Ms Leahnore Wright back to Nazareth. For the past 3 years Ms Wright has been working at St Francis School at Daly River in the Northern Territory.
I look forward to supporting all members of the school as we work together, along with our Parish Priest Fr Joe, so that our children will continue to seek knowledge, acquire wisdom and promote peace.

PROJECT COMPASSION LAUNCH
This year Project Compassion will be launched on 16 February 2021. Project Compassion are offering a new look to their launch. Students in Years 5 and 6 will participate in virtual immersion sessions hosted by Caritas, which will include Q&A sessions where students can engage directly with Caritas Australia’s program operatives in Australia. These sessions offer a unique opportunity for students to connect with the people positively affected through Caritas-supported programs and to learn more about the impact of their generous donations.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CURRICULUM
The Religious Education Curriculum aims to assist the students to reflect upon, make sense of, celebrate and live more deeply the mystery of Christ as revealed in each person and in relationship with others, the Church and creation. Religious Education, at Nazareth, is taught at the beginning of each day.
The liturgical year provides the framework for the Religious Education Curriculum. The following Curriculum Units will be covered during the first half of Term One.
Kindergarten - Welcome. This unit establishes simple prayer routines with a focus on the Sign of the Cross.
Year 1 - Love One Another. This unit focuses on using Christ as a model of a god friend.
Year 2 - Images of God. This unit introduces and explores a variety of biblical images of God that tell something of what God is like.
Year 3 - Created by God: A Gift to Share. In this unit students will learn about God's infinite love for them and that they are created in the image and likeness of God.
Year 4 - Living the Law of Love This unit explores the 'law of love'.
Year 5 - The Reign of God: Reaching Out in Justice. This unit explores the Church's mission to build a world of justice.
Year 6 - The Reign of God: Breaking Down the Barriers. This unit explores how Jesus broke down barriers that prevented right relationships.
PENANCE
The Rite of Reconciliation is a two-stage process. Reconciliation is vital in all our lives and focuses on how we restore peace when we make mistakes or do wrong and how God’s desire to forgive and heal is offered to us through reconciliation.Children who have been baptised and are at least in Year 3 at school can be enrolled by their parents into the Sacrament of Penance program. The program is also referred to as the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A four-week parish-based program is administered every year. If you have not enrolled your child for the Sacrament of Reconciliation or submitted your workshop preferences, please bring your child's baptism certificate and the $20 fee in envelope with the child's name on it to mass this weekend.
Students in 5B will be exploring how we build a just world and learning that justice is an important element in bringing about the Reign of God. Students will look at examples of injustice and how the Church continues the mission of Jesus by working for justice. In their exploration, students will look at decision-making and conscience and will be undertaking research on those who have made a difference in our world.
