Tomorrow all families will receive a YouTube link which can be used to access Nazareth’s newly formatted school assembly. This will be the first of regular assemblies and will provide an opportunity to share school news, celebrate learning and to acknowledge particular students’ achievements with Merit Awards. The link to access the assembly will remain open for a set period of time which will allow flexibility over each weekend for your whole family to view the assembly. This is exciting and I thank the staff who are involved with the planning of this new initiative.
I ask that all parents / carers read the correspondence that has been sent to you this afternoon separate to this newsletter. The correspondence outlines important current information in relation to COVID and current directives. I thank you for your ongoing cooperation during this extremely difficult time.
Take care
Peter Dempsey
Principal
Last week we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Our lady. According to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”. The school thanks Fr Joe for explaining this feast day in the message he sent recently to all students.

With this different and challenging time that we are experiencing, sometimes we need to shut down and clear our minds of the things going on around us. The podcast Ripples: Inspired Voices, Treasured Stillness was developed in response to COVID-19 and from a desire to find new ways to ‘be’ in this environment.
This podcast was developed for staff and parents
on-going spiritual formation. It seeks to offer a space where people can draw on the wisdom of a series of guest speakers and can experience some treasured stillness through meditation. Practices like these create a ripple effect. They have the potential to impact the way we respond to family, friends, colleagues, to creation and to our loving God. Come and enjoy some Inspired Voices and Treasured Stillness. The podcast can be listened to through ‘Apple Podcast’ or ‘’Podbean.
Father Joe has devised a way to keep our parish community connected allowing access to masses and services from your home. Father Joe delivers a morning service, live streamed at 7.30am. This can be found on the All Saints Catholic Parish Shellharbour City Facebook page. Also each week All Saints Parish continues to present a Bulletin with the weekend Readings and other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: http://www.allsaintscatholic.org.au/allsaintscatholic/Welcome.html. Please remember Father Joe in your prayers as he works his way through this time of lockdown.
This week Year 4 began talking about Creation. After watching a short video, they were given some ‘I wonder’ questions to reflect upon.
I wonder which part of creation you like best? My favourite part of creation is when God said "Let there be light." – Ananbel
I wonder how you felt, when people were created in the story? Glad and happy because human kind is what makes the whole world happy and strong. – Harry
I wonder why, in this story people were created last? I think they were created last because they were the hardest to make. – Jackson
I wonder why God thinks that creation is good? I think God believes that creation is good because it shows life, kindness and love. Olivia
I wonder what this story tells us about God. This story is that God loves this world and us very much as if we were his children. – Anton
I wonder why God gave humankind the authority to look after all the creatures of the earth. I think God chose us because we have lots of compassion. – Murphy
I wonder how a master/person/boss in authority should act towards those for whom he/she is responsible. I think the person in authority should be respectful, caring and act responsibly. They should also lead by example. – David
4R has been doing such a fantastic job with their Remote Learning! We have been busy reading Wonder, completing Maths tasks and learning how to write convincing persuasive texts. We have also been completing a research task to learn about Japan. A highlight of our Remote Learning is our Zoom meetings! We are enjoying seeing each other and playing games on Zoom together. Keep up the great work 4R!
1. Classes will engage in exciting Book Week related online learning
2. Students will have the opportunity to read some of the shortlisted texts via their online learning platforms
3. On Friday 27th August, all students and teachers will dress up as a character from a book for their Friday ZOOM meeting.
Please note, any student who is attending school onsite on Friday 27th August will only need to bring a costume prop to add to their school uniform. They are not to wear a costume for the whole day at school - they will join their class ZOOM wearing their prop.
We look forward to seeing the students dressed as a wonderful book character in their ZOOM meetings on Friday 27th August!
Happy Reading!

This week, the PB4L team would like to remind parents, carers and students of some ways that they can encourage ‘Positive Behaviours 4 Learning’ at home during this time of remote learning. Here are some ideas to help keep your child motivated and to help them maintain a positive state of mind.
-
Children love a routine! Stick to a routine on school days by having set times for remote learning activities and breaks, including recess and lunch.
-
Make sure that your child has time for ‘brain breaks’ throughout the day. These can be as simple as putting on your favourite song and having a dance to it, drawing a picture, playing a game with someone, kicking a ball in the backyard, playing with a pet or taking the dog for a walk.
-
When your child (or you) is at a point of feeling upset or frustrated by a task, try encouraging them to take a break and do something that they enjoy doing for 10 or 15 minutes. Once your child has had time to calm down and reset, they might feel ready to tackle that task again once and for all!
-
Encourage your child by praising them for the effort they are putting into their learning. Let them know that you are proud of what they are achieving in their remote learning.
The staff at Nazareth are extremely proud of the children and are enjoying seeing all the fantastic work they are presenting. We appreciate the time and effort parents are putting into assisting their children with their learning. Stay safe and take care of each other.
