Last Wednesday’s Grandparent’s Day was a tremendous success whereby Grandparents, Great Grandparents and those that are like grandparents enjoyed time at Nazareth. Well over 500 guests gathered with the students and staff for Mass with Fr Joe. They then enjoyed morning tea which was followed by classroom visits. The school acknowledges the important role that grandparents have with their family and the unique special love existent between grandparent and grandchild. Thank you to many people who took time to be at Nazareth last Wednesday, many of whom travelled considerable distance.
A reminder to all families (as previously communicated), tomorrow Friday June 3 is a Pupil Free Day. The staff will be engaged in professional learning which will be centred on our two school priorities for 2022. The first of which is a focus on the teaching of 7 key comprehension strategies from Kindergarten to Year 6 and the second priority being the ongoing implementation of a new numeracy program called Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU). EMU is primarily aimed at supporting children who require additional support with Mathematics. Mrs Bree Jedrzejczak is the school’s newly appointed EMU teacher and is already well underway with the teaching of EMU with Year 1 students. The EMU program also supports the teaching of Mathematics across the school. Staff will also be engaged with ongoing learning modules supporting the rollout of new syllabus documents for 2023.
I hope that students enjoy tonight’s Disco and I look forward to seeing many in the Hall this evening. Refer to this newsletter for times and other details.
Thank you to the many parents who assisted with the serving of morning tea at last week’s Grandparent’s Day.
Enjoy the week ahead.

Confirmation
Confirmation workshops began this week for Year 6 students making the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. Workshops will run Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at either 3 pm or 5 pm in the Hall. We ask that parents please be on time when arriving at these workshop sessions. If your child is attending a 3 pm workshop, you are required to pick your child up from school at 2.45 pm and take them to the hall for a 3 pm start. Supervision at school is only until 2.45 pm and teachers need to prepare for the workshop session.
Class Masses
We have reintroduced Class Masses for 2022. With restrictions now lifted, all classes will participate in a weekly Wednesday mass at 9 am on a rotating basis. This week Year 3 attended Wednesday Mass. Next Wednesday, Year 4 will be attending Mass. We welcome any parents, family members or friends to join us at any of the Wednesday masses.
Pentecost
This Sunday, 5 June we celebrate one of the most important feast days of the year that concludes the Easter season and celebrates the beginning of the Church and it is the celebration of Pentecost. Pentecost always occurs 50 days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, and ten days after his ascension into heaven. Pentecost is the celebration of the person of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus.
It was right after Pentecost that Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, preached his first homily to Jews and other non-believers, in which he opened the scriptures of the Old Testament, showing how the prophet Joel prophesied events and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. For this reason, Pentecost is considered the birthday of the Church - Peter, the first Pope, preaches for the first time and converts thousands of new believers.
To celebrate the birthday of the church, this Sunday will be the parish Multicultural Day. Our choir will be performing Hearts of Courage as part of the lunchtime celebrations in the Hall. Mass will commence at 9 am and celebrations will follow at 11 am. Everyone is welcome.
All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
During Religion, Kindergarten students have been discussing the reasons why we visit the church, as well as how we should behave when we are in the church. Here are some photos of our bookwork.
Michaela: I go to church to celebrate Grandparent's Day. I need to sit still when I'm at church.
April: I go to church to think about Jesus and God. I need to sit still and be quiet in the church.
Aisha: I need to go to church to be safe. I must not kick my legs or bother my friends at church.
Ariella: I go to church to pray to Jesus and tell Jesus that I love him. I need to be responsible and keep my body still. I feel relaxed and calm at church.
Patrick: I go to church to pray to God. I need to be quiet and still at church.
Fletcher: I go to church so I can pray to God. I need to be happy and not kick my legs when I'm at church.
Isaac: I go to church because I want to see Jesus and talk to him. I need to be quiet and still at church.

LEARNING with THE LEARNING CENTRE
This term the Learning Centre have been working away busily in English and Mathematics. In Mathematics students have enjoyed learning about the concepts of Addition, Subtraction and Data. In Data we have observed the most popular coloured car that drives past Nazareth, what people's favourite animals are and what people's favourite footy team is. Here are some photos of students enjoying their learning.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 2022
The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
As part of Reconciliation Week, some of our indigenous students together with Mrs Logan and Mrs Howard took part in a Reconciliation walk and celebration to signify walking together as a community to acknowledge and support our indigenous culture and its peoples. Together we can all be brave and make change. Each class has been learning about the origins of Reconciliation Week and its significance.

This week our PB4L focus is on revising with the children how to display good audience manners for assemblies and other special school gatherings.
Classroom teachers will revise with the children how they can:
- Enter the assembly with voice code 0 (without speaking at all);
- Sit quietly on their bottom with their legs crossed in class lines;
- Have their lips closed and their eyes to the front;
- Listen to the person speaking;
- Participate in prayers and songs;
- Clap only.
