Dear Parents and Carers,
This week is National Child Protection Week. National Child Protection Week is an annual event in Australia that aims to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Where we start matters”. The campaign continues to champion the message – Every child in every community needs a fair go. These RESOURCES have been made available for parents.
On behalf of the staff and students, I would like to express my gratitude for the exceptional support and enthusiasm you showed during our recent Book Week and Father's Day celebrations.
Book Week was a resounding success, and it wouldn't have been possible without your support. Your creativity and dedication were evident in the fantastic costumes and the enthusiasm with which you embraced the spirit of the event.
In addition to Book Week, we celebrated Father's Day with great joy and appreciation for all of the dads and supportive males in the lives of our students. Your presence during our various Father's Day activities (gift stall, breakfast, liturgy, Sunday mass) brought immense happiness to the children. By showing your love and support, you have shown your children the importance of family and positive role models.
As partners in education, your involvement plays a crucial role in creating a nurturing learning environment for our students. Your support is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to many more successful events in the future.
Finally, I would like to remind you that I will be on long service leave for Week 10 of this Term and weeks 1 and 2 of Term 4. I thank Mr Danny Sykes for his willingness to act as Principal of Nazareth in my absence.
First Holy Communion
If your child is in Year 3 or older, there will be an information and name recording session for names of students wishing to celebrate the sacrament of First Holy Communion on Thursday 7th September at 7.00pm at the Parish Hall. Enrolment will be at the weekend masses on 9 and 10 September. Celebration of the Sacrament of First Holy Communion will be held on Sunday 26 November 2023 at 11am & 2pm.
Important: If your child has not made their Sacrament of Reconciliation, please let the parish office know as they will be able to complete their Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. This can be done at the same time.
All mass times can be found in the All Saints Parish Bulletin and all other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: https://www.dow.org.au/parish/all-saints-catholic-parish-shellharbour-city
THE CHRISTMAS ART STORY EXHIBITION AND COMPETITION
Dear Year 5 and 6 families,
This Term the students have participated in The Christmas Art Story Exhibition and Competition.
The Art Exhibition and Competition provides an opportunity to share with the wider community a greater awareness of the role of the arts in Religious Education. Students can develop a deeper appreciation for their talents, and recognise the value of the arts in expressing understandings of the Catholic faith.
The students in Years 5 and 6 have worked meticulously on their artworks and written reflections. Artworks that make the shortlisting of the competition will be displayed up in the Wollongong Art Gallery. Accordingly, not all works submitted by schools will be chosen to be a part of the exhibition at the Art Gallery.
Preliminary shortlisting will take place in the Marian Centre on Monday 11 September and those students whose artwork has been selected for exhibition will be notified on Wednesday 13 September, via their schools and will be invited to attend the opening night of the exhibition with their guests which will be on Wednesday 11 October. These students will be eligible for the next phase of the competition. In addition to the opening night, the successful exhibitors will have their work displayed from Friday 6 October until Sunday 29 October at the Wollongong Art Gallery. Artworks can be viewed at the public gallery during this period. The Art Gallery is open to the public Tuesday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm and weekends 12:00-4:00pm.
Congratulations to the following students in Years 5 and 6:
Amelia Perez
Jack Kauter
Alessandra Barrass
Anton De Jesus
Mikayla Carriage
Jackson Horsey
The artworks created by these students, alongside their written reflections about their chosen scripture passage have been submitted into the competition within the Diocese. We wish them all the very best in the anticipation of the shortlisting to come.

NRL Tackle and Tag Gala Day
On Thursday 24th August, some students from year 5 and 6 represented the school at the Tackle and Tag gala day. The students had a fantastic day, showcasing their amazing skills. Congratulations to all students who represented the school, we received numerous comments on the sportsmanship of the students. A big thank you to Mr De Gabriele, Mr Scofield, Mr Tonegato, Mrs Little and Mrs Pepper for helping manage teams on the day and to all our other parents/carers and grandparents who came to cheer the students.
2024 Representative Sport Trial Information
In the coming weeks information will be sent out via Compass for the 2024 Representative Sports Trials nomination process, this process will look a little different to previous years. Information will be communicated to parents and carers soon to ensure that you are able to nominate your child for their sport(s).
Please note that these sports nominations/trials are not for children to come for the experience, they are for children who are experienced and extremely talented in their sport(s). When the nominations have been received by the school, they will be filtered through and then sent to the Catholic Education Office who will make a decision about whether a child is invited to trial or not. When filling out these nominations, it is important that you include as much detail about your child(ren)’s experience as this will allow the sports team here at Nazareth and at the Catholic Education Office to make a fair decision regarding their nomination.
Please keep an eye on Compass in the coming weeks for the rest of this information.
Upcoming Events:
Basketball Gala Day (years 3 & 4) - Thursday 14th September at Croome Road Sporting Complex
Basketball Gala Day (years 5 & 6) - Friday 15th September at Croome Road Sporting Complex.
