I would like to congratulate all of the Nazareth school community for the spirit in which Book Week was celebrated by students, staff and families. The Book Week parade saw a very large number of visitors gather in the grounds of our school to enjoy the costumes presented by our students and staff. We were also treated to some impromptu acting by staff as they paraded with their students. It was delightful to see the younger members of the community - the pre-school age students - dress up and join in the parade. Thank you to Miss Biggs for her excellent skills as Master of Ceremonies.
All students will return to school in Term 4 in their Nazareth Summer Uniform. Please review the uniform policy (see below) and take the opportunity during the school holidays to update any necessary items of the uniform for your child/ren. It is important that all children wear their school hat to school each day.
Upcoming important dates:
School Photos will take place on Wednesday 21st September (Week 10). All students will need to be in their WINTER uniform on this day.The last day for students this term is THURSDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER.

World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation
On Monday, Year 5 led the school in a liturgy for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. From 1 September to 4 October we celebrate the season of Creation, inspired by Pope Francis' landmark encyclical Laudato Si’, which calls on "every person living on this planet" to care for our shared Earth.
First Holy Communion
For students in Year 3 or older, who have previously celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation, there will be a parent information session on Thursday evening in the Hall at 7 pm. Parents will receive information about preparing their child for First Holy Communion. At least one parent must attend the parent information session. Enrolment will be after any of the parish masses this weekend. The celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion will be held on Sunday, 20 November 2022 at 11 am and 2 pm. If you are preparing your child for First Holy Communion, please keep this day free.

Students were encouraged to wear something yellow, such as socks, scrunchie or a ribbon. Students engaged in lessons in their classrooms around how to ask their friends if they’re OK. Look out on Facebook to see some videos of students drumming in support of RUOK? Day!

In KN, we have been wondering about the uniqueness of God's creation in our Religion lessons. We know that every cloud, rock formation, tree, beach, mountain, sunrise, sunset etc is different. How great is our God! We have written prayers of praise, painted beautiful pictures and drawn amazing things of our beautiful creation.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Sonny Dafkovski in 1S for taking part in the MS Readathon. Sonny read as many books as he could in August to raise funds to fund vital support services for people living with multiple sclerosis.
Altogether Sonny raised $1077.00 and read 63 books. We are very proud of Sonny! What a fantastic effort!
Special Vistors to Year 2
On Wednesday the 7th of September students from Corpus Christi brought 7 senior citizens to visit Year 2. During this time, students read to and with our special guests and then had an opportunity to draw one of the senior citizens. The students had a great time chatting to the special guests, asking them about their lives and having a laugh with new friends. Here are some of our experiences:
Layla - We enjoyed spending time with our special visitors.
Alex - I learnt that when Bob came to our desk that he likes to read murder mystery books
Aubrey - I learned that Vicki loves drawing swirls.
Zach - I especially enjoyed drawing Bob.
Saxon - I learned that Marie has a granddaughter in year 2 at Stella Maris.
Home Readers
If any home readers are found at home (i.e those that we thought were lost but now are found), please return them to the school - no questions asked!
School Assemblies are held at 2 pm each Friday unless otherwise notified. Usually, they will be held in the hall.
In Maths, 3H have been learning about Fractions, 3D Space, Position and Patterns. We enjoyed learning about the faces, edges and vertices of 3D Objects and using playdough and matchsticks to create 3D Objects we know. Here are some photos of our learning.

Students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have been learning about different artworks that have been inspired by dreams during Book Week as our theme this year was ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’. Here are some of the exciting things we have been learning about in Visual Arts:
In Years 3 and 4 we read the story ‘Iceberg’ by Claire Saxby and illustrated by Jess Racklyeft. We were inspired by the colours of the Antarctic and were very persistent when we created our own DIY scratchboard artwork. We used oil pastels and a skewer to create our very own dreamscape of the Antarctic environment.
Mia H and Amalia R are presenting some of the completed artworks by 3H.
In Years 5 and 6, we have been learning about artists who create dreamscapes, like Howie Green. Inspired by his art piece, ‘Cosmic Sun’, we are creating our own version of a dreamscape using pencil, marker and oil pastels. Although we are not quite finished yet, below are some of our awesome artworks in progress.
Year 6 answer the big question:
What is a Dreamscape?
A dreamscape is a landscape that you imagine or create like an imaginary world. - Tauris I
A dreamscape is an artwork that includes strange elements like colours, shapes and patterns that make it look like a dream - Calahni D
Dreamscapes are like dreaming with your eyes open, like our Book Week theme. - Daniel J
You can create a fantasy world from your imagination and it can include realistic and unrealistic characteristics - Lexi M
This week we are learning about the many reasons why artists use and create digital art pieces such as, for an advertisement or commercial and for an illustration of cartoon characters in a film or video game. We are taking on the challenge to use technology to digitally create a dreamscape artwork of our own.

The Christmas Art Story Competition and Exhibition
A few of our Year 5 and Year 6 students have shared their interest and have been participating in an incredible art project this term known as the Christmas Art Story Competition and Exhibition. It is an authentic and creative opportunity for students to explore and share the role of the Arts in Religious Education with the wider community with a focus on the scriptures of The Christmas Story. All the students have worked diligently, exploring their connections to faith, to which is reflected in their incredible works of art. As you may already know, The Christmas Art Story is a wonderful opportunity that takes place across the entire Diocese of Wollongong, allowing for students from all over our community to get involved and compete.
As we come to the end of our Christmas Art project in Term 3, we enter the second stage of the competition that will take place in Term 4. Only 6 students from each school across the Diocese are selected to enter into the competition where the artworks will be shortlisted for numerous awards. Artworks that make it through to the shortlisting stage of the Competition will be displayed in the Wollongong Art Gallery, which will be open for public viewing in the month of October (from the 8th-28th).
Below are the 6 students from Nazareth Catholic Primary School who have been selected to move through to the second stage of the competition, alongside their incredible scripture based compositions. We’d like to congratulate all the students who have participated this year and wish those moving into stage 2 all the very best.

This week our PB4L focus is on eating time at recess and lunch. Students are expected to sit respectfully and eat their recess and lunch, in their designated area with their peers.
Classroom teachers will be revising with the children how they can show the expected behaviours during recess and lunchtime, including:
- Walking to their designated area with their teacher;
- Sitting in their area, including others and remaining sitting until a teacher dismisses them;
- Eating only their food and keeping their area tidy;
- Putting their rubbish in the bin once a teacher has dismissed them;
- Placing your lunchbox in the tub carefully;
- Walking to get equipment for play time.
