As we near the end of this Term I wish to acknowledge the extraordinary work of the Nazareth staff. Their consistent daily commitment ensuring students are engaged with their learning, are cared for and supported, is inspirational. This year has presented with so many challenges for educators, yet the Nazareth staff continue to rise above the challenges to ensure each child has every opportunity to progress with their learning. I wish to extend my sincere thanks to all staff members.
As challenging as it has been for educators, so to for parents, including the demands on you to ensure stability for your family during this turbulent time of uncertainty. In this context I recommend to you the program Ripples which has been included in our newsletter for the past several months.
Ripples: Inspired Voices Treasured Stillness, was developed in response to COVID -19 and from a desire to find ways to walk with parents (and staff) in an innovative way so as to remain connected. Robyn Gallagher (CEDoW) has developed these regular podcasts as a means of addressing the following questions:
- How do I process all that is happening in the world at the level of the heart?
- How do I remain measured when there are so many challenges?
- How might I experience a sense of God’s closeness?
The Ripples podcasts attempt to provide space and time by drawing on the wisdom of a series of guest speakers, so that the listener can experience some treasured stillness through mediation. The podcasts have the potential to impact positively on the way you respond to family, friends and colleagues. Give it a go. https://ripples.dow.catholic.edu.au
Nazareth school has a long history of musical performance and I am very pleased to announce that on Wednesday December 2, Year 6 will present the play ‘Blue Ribbon Belle’ (see details in this newsletter) which will be live-streamed. Rehearsal is already underway which includes every student in Year 6. There will be an 11am matinee performance live-streamed which will then be replayed at 6:30pm so that the students will be able to watch with their families from home. All details in relation to the livestreaming will be forwarded to all families next Term. The play will be safely performed with adherence to COVID-19 restrictions.
I hope that all families enjoy the up and coming school vacation time. Be safe, take care and enjoy the weeks ahead.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR CREATION
The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation is held each year on the 1st September. This day marks the beginning of the Season of Creation, an annual event that encourages prayer and action for our common home which runs from 1st September through to 4th October. In recent years, thousands of Catholics on six continents have organised local activities to celebrate the Season of Creation.
MINI VINNIES
Today the Mini Vinnies Team met together to continue incorporating ideas to make our school a cleaner place during this Season of Creation. Classes will be designated a space within the school that will be their responsibility to keep tidy and clean. Look out for the Mini Vinnies team members who will be displaying posters about each classes designated area.
FRIDAY WEEKLY ASSEMBLY
Virtual Assembly via Zoom will continue each Friday in Term 3, at 9:00am. The Meeting ID: 960 7221 8798 can be used to enter the assembly. At these assemblies there will be a short prayer followed by the presentation of weekly awards.
2020 PARISH CONFIRMATION PREPARATION
Enrolment forms for the Sacrament of Confirmation will be sent home to Year 6 students at the end of this week. To receive the Sacrament of Confirmation student’s need to have been baptised and received the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Forms are to be returned to the school with $20 payment prior to the end of Term 3.
Year 6 students will be preparing for Confirmation during class over the first four weeks of Term 4. Students will receive workbooks in Week 1, Term 4. There will be home tasks to complete prior to each lesson at school.
Subject to Covid restrictions, Confirmation will be celebrated on Thursday 5th November and Friday 6th November. Dependent on numbers there may need to be restrictions and/or extra sessions.
2020 PARISH FIRST RECONCILIATION
Preparation for Reconciliation began in Term 1 as part of the Parish Partner’s Program. Students will receive refresher lessons in Year Three classrooms at the beginning of Term 4. Father Joe hopes to meet with the students during school hours to allow them to make their First Reconciliation prior to receiving communion for the first time during Term 4. Parents will be notified of dates as they come to hand.
2020 PARISH FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION
Enrolment forms for the Sacrament of First Communion will be sent home to Year 3 students, who have prepared for Reconciliation at the end of this week. To receive the Sacrament of First Communion student’s need to have been baptised and received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Forms are to be returned to the school with $20 payment prior to the end of Term 3.
Year 3 students will be preparing for First Communion during class over the first six weeks of Term 4. Students will receive workbooks in Week 1, Term 4. There will be home tasks to complete prior to each lesson at school.
Subject to Covid restrictions, First Communion will be celebrated on the weekend of 28th / 29th November. Dependent on numbers there may need to be restrictions and/or extra sessions over other weekends.
If your child is in a higher grade than Year 3 and would like to make their First Communion please contact Mrs Marsh at the school for an enrolment form.
Just a note to clarify a number of questions about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. The Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion are two separate programs requiring two separate payments of $20. The payment covers Parish costs of the booklets, along with a memento that the children will receive once they receive the Sacrament. Children have received the booklet for Reconciliation and will receive another booklet to complete for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion at the beginning of Term 4.
As for why there is a need to provide details of Baptism, this assists the record keeping for the Parish. Having the details again listed on the First Holy Communion form, ensures that details can be easily entered into the system. The Baptism Certificate only needs to be supplied if it wasn’t supplied at the time of Reconciliation enrolment and your child was baptised outside the All Saints Parish.
If your child did not receive a note regarding the Sacraments, I have spare copies at school.

SACRAMENT PREPARATION
If you know of State School students or families who wish to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion or Confirmation, please ask the family to contact the Parish Office for details.
Over the past few weeks, 3L have been learning how to pray so that we can better develop our relationship with God. We have learnt that prayer is when we have a conversation with God and that there are many different types of prayers such as:
- Prayer of sorrow - when we say sorry for our mistakes and ask God for forgiveness.
- Prayer of praise - when we praise God for the incredible creations in the world.
- Prayer of thanksgiving - when we thank God for the things we are lucky to have.
- Prayer of petition - when we ask God for help for ourselves or other people.
Here are some prayers of thanksgiving that have been written by students in 3L:
Dear generous God,
Thank you for my family that loves and cares for me. Thank you for the food that we eat everyday and for the water we drink when we are thirsty. Thank you for my friends that care about me, make me laugh and help me to have fun when I’m not feeling the best. Thank you for the eyes, ears, hands, legs, mouth, fingers and everything you have given me. Thank you for the beautiful nature, sun and sky.
Amen~

Dear generous God,
Thank you for giving me a loving and caring family. Thank you for giving me talents and abilities. Thank you for giving me food on a table, water to drink and a bed to sleep in. Thank you God, you are very generous.
Amen

Dear loving God,
Thank you for my hands to write and draw with. Thank you for my family and friends who love and take care of me. Thank you for mother nature and the animals that you have created.
Amen ~

Dear loving God,
Thank you for friends that look out for me and play with me. Thank you for a family that loves me. Thank you for the roof above my head so that I can keep warm in winter and keep cold in Summer.
Amen ~

This term the Learning Centre has been very busy with their learning. We have been involved in a range of learning tasks that have taught us about such things as volume and capacity, length, reading and writing. A particular highlight was working with Mr Dempsey to pick oranges from our school orange tree. We were even lucky enough to get to eat the delicious oranges.
‘Blue Ribbon Belle’ is a play that pays tribute to that great country icon, the agricultural show. It is a musical filled with lots of humour about a young girl and her best friend in the world, her pet cow - Belle. When life becomes hard on the farm, Belle’s future remains in doubt. Belle is entered in the blue ribbon event by the young girl in the hope that the prize money will save her. Year 6 students look forward to performing this heart-warming musical for our whole school community via live stream. A new and exciting experience for all of us!!

In the meantime the school is progressing with the planning associated with a live-streaming of an end of year event. Details will be provided to parents when available. The school reminds all families that non-sanctioned events or initiatives can not occur.

Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character.
At Nazareth we will be doing all this and more. The Book Week Parade will be held on the 23 October. Keep in mind the theme for this year is, ‘Curious Creatures. Wild Minds’. The school will be adhering to all COVID-19 restrictions.
Congratulations to the 149 students who have completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2020. We look forward to presenting you with your certificates at the end of Term 4.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
Last Friday, we acknowledged our SRC Representatives for Semester 2 2020. These students were chosen by their peers to represent their class. We congratulate the following students.
Students are given the opportunity to bring in a snack for the morning session of learning. This snack is in the form of a piece of fruit or a vegetable. When preparing crunch and sip, we request that it is cut up and placed it in a reusable container in order to reduce waste.
BIN NEWS
We have just introduced new FOGO bins into our classrooms and on our playgrounds. Classes have been participating in lessons in order to learn where their rubbish and food scrape need to be placed. We would love it if you could continue these conversations at home so that students gets lots of practice of where things need to go.

Due to COVID restrictions, we had to place a hold on waste free Wednesdays. Now that things have settled down, we are able to reintroduce it. We ask that where possible, students bring a waste free lunch each day. On Wednesdays, students will come around to classes and tick of the names on the students with a waste free lunch. They will go into the draw to win a prize at our Friday assembly. Furthermore, the class with the greatest number of students participating will win the trophy (Waste Free Gnome) to have in their classroom for the week.
