Today, Nov 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Nazareth School along with Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong is committed to appropriately raising awareness of this issue and through education support the development of attitudes that promote peace. Underpinning this position is the acknowledgement of the inherit dignity of all people and the importance of establishing and maintaining respectful relationships.
I regularly speak to the students about the importance of being respectful to all people. In particular I spoke with our Year 6 boys this week about the responsibility they all have (we all have) to ensure that respect is a priority, in particular respect for women. We all play an important role in forming and shaping the attitudes of others. Disrespectful behaviour and violence to others should always be called out and called in.
Disturbingly however, violence in families of which is often directed at women, is alarmingly high. Victims often feel helpless and do not know how to seek help. If you know anyone who is impacted by domestic violence, you may be able to assist by offering them the contact names and associated phone numbers of the local organisations that can assist.
Call the Police for immediate assistance on 000.
CatholicCare Wollongong offers family and relationships services that include counsellors who are trained to work with and refer clients impacted by domestic violence. Contact (02) 4254 9395 for more information.
The St Vincent de Paul Society also offers a specialist homelessness service in the diocese assisting women and their children who are experiencing (or at risk of) homelessness, or are escaping domestic or family violence. Contact 1800 656 463 for more information.
Take care

RIPPLES PODCAST
In this different time that we are experiencing, sometimes we need to shut down and clear our minds of the things going on around us. The podcast Ripples: Inspired Voices, Treasured Stillness was developed in response to COVID-19 and from a desire to find new ways to ‘be’ in this environment.
This podcast was developed for staff and parents on-going spiritual formation. It seeks to offer a space where people can draw on the wisdom of a series of guest speakers and can experience some treasured stillness through meditation. Practices like these create a ripple effect. They have the potential to impact the way we respond to family, friends, colleagues, to creation and to our loving God. Come and enjoy some Inspired Voices and Treasured Stillness. The podcast can be listened to through ‘Apple Podcast’ or ‘’Podbean. To access please use this link: https://ripples.dow.catholic.edu.au/
Each week All Saints Parish continues to present a Bulletin with the weekend Readings and other important information. A link can be found on the Parish Website: http://www.allsaintscatholic.org.au/allsaintscatholic/Welcome.html.
1H are very excited for the season of Advent to start! We have been learning about the correct colours of Advent that we see in the church during Mass and the colours we use to decorate our prayer space in the classroom. We can’t wait to decorate the prayer space with purple!
To prepare for the beginning of Advent, we have listened to and watched the story of the Annunciation where Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel and was told that she was going to have a baby. The children in 1H created an artwork of the Annunciation, here are some of the wonderful works of art.
ANNOUNCEMENT re Kim Day
After 21 years of service to Nazareth Catholic Primary School, Mrs Kim Day has submitted her resignation. During Kim’s 21 years at Nazareth she has fulfilled the role of class teacher, teacher of Dance and Drama and coordinator of Musical Performance.
Kim’s passion for musical performance has been instrumental in establishing a strong culture at the school of music, dance, drama and performance. Kim’s commitment to the benefits of creativity and her belief in individual students and groups of students has ensured countless opportunities for hundreds of students in whole school musicals, Stage based musicals, Diocesan performances, role plays, liturgical dance, community dance initiatives, formal dance lessons, formal drama lessons, choir and Wakakirri.
Kim has also supported and coordinated numerous school based sporting events over many years and has been directly involved in supporting the school based Mini Vinnies initiative.
On behalf of the school community I extend our sincere thanks to Kim. We wish Kim all the best during the years ahead. Kim is very much looking forward to supporting her extended family in Sydney and interstate.
ANNOUNCEMENT re: Michelle Masterson
I wish to inform the school community that Mrs Michelle Masterson will be resigning at the end of this year. I will respect Michelle’s request to keep this announcement brief.
On behalf of the Nazareth School Community I extend our thanks to Michelle for her many years of dedicated service to the school, to the Diocese of Wollongong and to NSW Catholic Schools sport. Teaching many children over a number of years and organising and coordinating numerous sporting carnivals has ensured that Michelle has been at the forefront of the establishment of a strong sporting culture at Nazareth. Michelle’s guidance and support for many students over the years has opened up pathways to higher levels of representation and to professional sport. In particular we acknowledge Michelle’s coordination of the NSW Catholic Schools Basketball Challenges, of which many families participated over many years. On behalf of the school community I extend our sincere thanks to Michelle and wish her well for the years ahead.

SHELLHARBOUR CITY COUNCIL MAYOR'S GIVING TREE APPEAL
Nazareth School wishes to support the Mayor’s Giving Tree Appeal. Families are encouraged to gift wrap a Christmas gift for a child and take it to the foyer area of the council building on College Ave. Alternatively, wrapped Christmas gifts can be collected at Nazareth and the school will organise for the gifts to be placed in the foyer of the Council building. The school and the broader Shellharbour community extends a huge thank you to all families who are to support this most worthwhile community initiative.
THE i98 ILLAWARRA 2021 CONVOY AND ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Recently I received a beautiful letter from one of our Year 2 students, Laila. Within the letter, Laila included the idea of the school raising money to support children who are unwell. In particular Laila suggested that Nazareth school might be able to support the i98 Illawarra 2021 Convey fundraising. Laila’s referenced in her letter the Nazareth School prayer which refers to the importance of being generous and giving without counting the cost. In this context the school invites students from Kinder to Year 6 to wear mufti clothes on Thursday Dec 9th and in doing so bring a gold coin(s) donation. Money raised will be forwarded to Convey fundraising. Families also have the option of donating additional funds by following the links on the The i98 Illawarra 2021 Convey website. In conjunction with this some of the money raised will also support the annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal. This appeal supports families (particularly) children who are in need at Christmas time. The school sincerely thanks you for your generous support at this time.

2021 ANNUAL WOLLONGONG DIOCESE SPORTS COUNCIL AWARDS
Each year the Wollongong Diocese Sports Council acknowledges outstanding sporting achievement. Unfortunately, the formal presentation evening was not able to be conducted in the traditional face to face manner but was held virtually and a wide range of recipients from Primary and Secondary schools across the Diocese were acknowledged. In this context Nazareth school congratulates one of our Year 6 students, Ryland Coelho for his outstanding sporting achievements. Ryland has been awarded a Diocese of Wollongong Sports Council Primary Medallion. Ryland receives this award because of his selection in two Wollongong Diocesan representative teams (Rugby Union and Rugby league). As a team member of both teams, Ryland competed at a NSW MacKillop level and demonstrated a high level of sportsmanship. Congratulations and well done Ryland.
ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT PARENT AND CARER SURVEY
Each academic year every school in NSW is required to complete an Annual School Report. We are seeking the voice of parents and carers to complete the Nazareth 2021 Annual School Report. If possible could parents and carers complete a very quick survey indicating your satisfaction with Nazareth School. The link to the survey is below.
The closing date of the survey is Thursday 2 December 2021. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to the school, as we value the feedback from our community.
4R have been very busy since returning to school! We have been learning about different types of poetry and have had fun writing our own poems on different topics. We have also been reading 'The Christmas Pig' by J.K. Rowling and have been really enjoying it. In Maths, we have been playing Maths games and revising lots of topics from Remote Learning. We completed a Maths challenge in groups where we had to solve different Maths problems to solve the mystery!

PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES BY INSTALMENT
NEW FAMILIES TO OUR SCHOOL
School Fees are invoiced as an annual account, due for payment in full 30 days after invoicing. However, many families elect to pay their school fees by regular instalments and as a new family to our school, we would like to offer you this option. If wish to take up this offer, please complete a Request to Pay by Instalment Form which is available on the school’s website or from the school’s administration office. On completion of the request, either email it to instalments@dow.catholic.edu.au or submit at the school office. Following receipt of the request, instalments will be generated on your school fee account during the process of invoicing 2022 school fees. Your school fee statements are emailed to you and they will provide a list of scheduled payments and their due date.
IMPORTANT: Please note that if you currently have a child or children at another school in the Diocese and you are paying by instalments at this location, you will not need to complete another Request to Pay by Instalment. The instalment request carries over from school to school with the same frequency of payment eg Weekly, fortnightly, etc.
EXISTING FAMILIES IN OUR SCHOOL WITH INSTALMENTS
If you are currently paying by instalments there is no need to complete another Request to Pay by Instalment as your request carries over from year to year unless you wish to amend the frequency of your payments eg Weeky to Fortnightly, etc.
EXISTING FAMILIES IN OUR SCHOOL WITHOUT INSTALMENTS
If you would like to pay school fees by instalments in 2022 and have previously not taken up this option for payment, please complete a Request to Pay by Instalment Form which is available on the school’s website or from the school’s administration office. On completion of the request either email it to instalments@dow.catholic.edu.au or submit at the school office. Following receipt of the request, instalments will be generated on your school fee account during the process of invoicing 2022 school fees. Your school fee statement will provide a list of scheduled payments and their due date depending on the frequency you have chosen eg Fortnightly, Monthly, etc.

This year we had 26 Stage 3 students participate in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad (APSMO). The Maths Olympiad teaches major problem solving strategies and strengthens students' mathematical intuition. The students were challenged to develop flexibility when solving challenging mathematical problems and persisted to find solutions and reflect on their strategies.
Congratulations to all who participated in this year's Maths Olympiad, and a special congratulations to Millie Tompkin who achieved the highest individual score at Nazareth.
Last Friday the students of Jerusalem (Blue House) were rewarded with a "blue mufti day", for filling their playground token box first. Well done to the students of blue house for being responsible and respectful on our playgrounds. Let's see if we can get another house in mufti before the end of the year. Keep up the great work everyone.
